Reading through the comments on tonight’s Live Blog, ya’ll were more disappointed with tonight’s The Voice Blind auditions than I was. Granted, it wasn’t the greatest night of TV singing talent EVAH, but there were a few performances that stood out. For me, they were Lyndsey Elm’s jazzy interpretation of “Lips are Movin” and Morgan Frazier, who brought a longing to “I Want You To Want Me” I never recognized before. Both singers managed to put their own stamp onto covers, which is more than I can say for some of the others.
For instance, Tyler Dickenson and Manny Cabo both delivered strong vocals, but were ultimately karaoke-like in execution. There were also a few head-scratchers that had me wondering what all the fuss was about. Young singers, Madi Davis and Amanda Ayl are a few years away from being ready for the big stage. Jeffrey Austin’s rendition of “Lay Me Down” was as bland as could be. Was episode 3 dedicated to cannon fodder? It felt like that at times.
Jubal Young’s “proposal” to his girlfriend, Amanda seemed super-staged and awkward. The coaches tried to look surprised as it was happening, but they looked more confused than anything. On air proposals are beyond cliched at this point. Yes, I know there is no place in contemporary music for this act, but truth time: I enjoyed the completely dated 70s vibe they brought to the show. It’s doubtful the duo will make live shows. I mean PHARRELL IS THEIR COACH. He’s already scheming exactly how he’ll use them as cannon fodder.
The Voice Blind audition talent tends to be front loaded. Fingers crossed, there’s still some great talent to come.
Let’s do some polls!

Are you suffering from The Voice fatigue?
Are we right on time with the singing show fatigue? It’s the 9th season of The Voice, and there seems to be some dissatisfaction with the talent. Are fans getting restless. Is it been there done that? Or is the talent worse than usual? I’m not as dissatisfied as some of you. Actually, I’ll withhold judgement at least until the Blind Auditions are over. We may not have seen the best of these singers yet!
