On The Voice 8 finale, Kelly Clarkson appeared to sing with two of the Final 4 contestants.
First she performed a scorching version of Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind” with the sensational young contestant, Kory Hawthorne. For those of you not following the show, this Pharrell Williams team member is a 17 year old church singer. She’s inexperienced, but her raw talent can’t be denied! Afterward, Kelly hugged Koryn and exclaimed, “She can sing, y’all!”
Later in the broadcast, Kelly took the stage again. This time, it was a duet with the veteran singer, Meghan Linsey, from Blake Shelton’s team. Some of you may remember Meghan from her country duo, Steel Magnolia, which won a season of CMT’s Can You Duet. Scott Borchetta signed them to Big Machine. But the two, a romantic couple, had a bad split. When the duo broke up, she turned to The Voice. There was no stopping the winner, Sawyer Fredericks, who dominated all season long. But Meghan did come in second, which can only help her career as she transitions from part of a country duo to a solo R&B artist.
Meghan joined Kelly to sing the American Idol original winner’s next single, “Invincible.” I wouldn’t even hope to match the queen on one of her own singles! I mean, check out that incredible run beginning at about 2:55. But listen to Meghan’s raspy-soulful vocals. She’s no slouch!
By the way, I hope this big, powerful, second single is a smash for Kelly!
