The Voice 25 Battle: RLETTO and Val T. Webb Slay on a Whitney Classic

The Voice 25 Battle - RLETTO and Val T Webb

The Voice 25 Battle: RLETTO and Val T. Webb let loose on a Whitney Houston classic for a spot on Team Chance

For a spot on Team Chance the Rapper, RLETTO and Val T Webb performed the classic Whitney Houston hit, “Saving All My Love for You” during The Voice Battles. NBC has dropped a preview from the LAST The Voice 25 Battle Round episode, airing Tuesday night (March 26).

The two sing a slow and sultry smooth jazz version of the song, on an arrangement crafted to show off all the riffs, runs and high notes. The performance built slowly to an unexpected break that got Chance up on his feet, with his fist in the air, whooping it up.

Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay said, “That was one of the most iconic performances I’ve ever seen.” He complimented Val’s range, control and her “beautiful tone” in her higher register. He called RLETTO “such a star,” adding that the richness in the lower register of his voice gave him goosebumps. Shay Mooney said, “You have that signature tone, you know exactly who you are, your outfit is absolute fire!” He can’t wait to buy the singers’ records. “Your voices are absolutely timeless,” he said. “Pick them both,” Dan demanded.

“You are a generational talent”

“Your voice has so much character and vibe,” John Legend complimented RLETTO, “And you have such an artistic point of view.” He added, “And then Val, your voice is pure and beautiful. You have such wonderful control over it. Your tone sounded so sweet.” Shay interjected, comparing her voice to silk, John said it’s a choice between a voice that’s pure and beautiful, or a voice that’s a little funkier. He won’t say who to pick, either.

Reba McEntire said, “Val, you just reminded us why you got a four chair turn,” She added, Your vocals are stupendous, beautiful, sweet. I can set and listen to you all day long.” She remarked to RLETTO, “I love your style and the way you sing,” Reba, the first panelist to show a preference added, “But Val just slays me with her vocal. I’d have to choose Val.”

Singing Whitney Houston is one of the toughest things an artist can do on the show, Chance observed. He felt RLETTO “really showed out.” He hoped that he felt that. “Because when you were in your lower register, the movement you were doing was very signature.” He called Val, a singer who has been working for years backing up other artists, a “generational talent.” He added, “Obviously you have the vocal control, but your actual physical body control when you directed the band for that break they did, it reminded us that you’re seasoned, that you know what you’re doing.”

Who will Chance pick for his team? Will Team Legend use the remaining steal on the loser? Find out on the final The Voice 25 Battle episode, which airs on NBC Tuesday (March 26) at 9 pm ET/PT.
