The Voice 24 Knockouts: Dan + Shay take Niall Horan’s place in team rehearsals while he tours
Dan + Shay will appear on The Voice season 25 as the very first “Double Chair.” The country duo will head one team, mentoring and making decisions together. But their The Voice participation doesn’t start with the Spring 2024 cycle. While Niall Horan embarked on this “The Show” tour, the duo took his place during Knockout rehearsals.
“Well I’ve got a bit of news for ya,” Niall tells his Knockouts team over Zoom, in a video posted to Instagram. “Because of my concert schedule, I actually won’t be in town for Knockout rehearsals.” His team looks concerned (and probably kinda bummed!). He continues, “Because I won’t be there, I’ve chosen another coach to come in and mentor you guys. And it’s not just one coach, it’s two!”
Cut to Dan + Shay holding jokey Niall Horan masks in front of their faces, complete with fake Irish accents. Niall believes stepping in for him is good practice for the duo, who have actually mentored for Blake Shelton on a past season. So they have practice!
“I’ll send you all the information on the team. I’ll send you videos,” Niall promises the duo. “I’ll introduce them all to you so you get to know them.” Dan + Shay have heard Niall has a “stacked” team, so they are pretty excited.
They wonder if an artist they mentor wins, they can put the item on their Wikipedia page. Niall jokes, “I noticed that you do your own Wikipedia page. There’s some suspect stuff on there!”
“No pressure!”
Niall states that for the Knockouts, he’s looking for individuality, and connection to the song. “If you can do that while I’m away.”
“No pressure!” is the response.
In reality, rehearsals are the only time the team members really get to bond with their coach. Particularly the artists whom Niall stole in the Battles, they may never really get to know him if eliminated right away. Considering that several of the singers chose him because they had a little crush on him during his One Direction years? Oh well!
The Voice 24 Knockouts continue on Tuesday Nov 7 at 9 pm ET PT following a one hour recap of Monday night’s Battles/Knockouts episode.
