The Voice 24 Blind Audition 4: Laura Williams’ passionate “Fingers Crossed” cover gets a 4-chair turn

Laura Williams opens her The Voice Blind Audition with beautiful low notes as she covers Lauren Spencer Smith’s big hit “Finger’s Crossed.”

Immediately, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan turn their chairs in a preview from Tuesday night’s (Oct 3) Auditions 4 episode. As she pours more and more emotion into the song, Reba McEntire, and then John Legend also push their buttons. It’s a 4-chair turn!

After the coaches give Laura a standing ovation, the Pennsylvania native reveals that she just turned 20 a few days before. She also confesses that The Voice audition is her “first gig” and the coaches can’t believe it. Previously, Laura was a full time babysitter while attending high school. She deferred college for a year to give music a try.

Gwen describes her as one of the best she’s heard. “The control that you had and the character in your voice, I would have thought…you wrote that song!” She adds, “For a 20 year old to be on this big TV stage, in front of us, you were so composed and in control of your performance.”

“I love your whole vibe,” says Niall noting that the song is “very hard” to sing. “It’s so snappy. You need quick breaths. Most people would get halfway through that chorus and pass out.” He adds, “No one can command the stage and project that well with breath control like you.”

Reba calls Laura a “prodigy”

Reba calls Laura a prodigy, which freaks the young singer out. “I’ve been performing since I was 13,” recalls Reba. “I just wish I had the confidence and the moves. All I would do is try and enhance what you already have.”

John promises not to “over coach” the singer. “You’re so good and so raw at the same time.” Laura shares that her favorite artists include Tori Kelly, Serena Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello and Niall’s old band, One Direction. She jokes that she sat in the nosebleeds for one of the group’s concerts.

Who will Laura choose as her coach. The panel flash their artist gifts, hoping to entice her. But you’ll have to tune in to NBC and watch The Voice 24 Auditions 4 episode tonight (Oct 3) at 8 pm ET/PT to find out.
