The Voice season 23 coaches sing epic Four Seasons cover

The Voice season 23 begins next week. Ahead of the new season, NBC drops the traditional coaches performance. This time the quartet sings the Four Seasons classic “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

The new coaches panel includes veteran Blake Shelton, who will leave the show after this season, Kelly Clarkson returning after skipping two cycles, and newbies Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper.

In the clip, the romantically lit stage has the four coaches in a circle, sitting comfy chairs. The band plays live behind them, accompanied by background singers.

The vibe is easy breezy, with Chance kicking off the first verse. Sure, he calls himself “the rapper,” but his soulful crooning, smooth as silk, should not be dismissed. Kelly jumps in with her R&B runs, while Blake adds some country flair. He’s the flirt of the group, at times singing to Kelly, while jokingly serenading Niall.

It feels like the group filmed the performance after they worked together for awhile. They all seem comfortable with each other. This season, even considering Blake’s divergent country twang, the vocals gel (they don’t always!). The clip doesn’t cut out when the song ends. “EHHHHHH!” Kelly shouts, while Niall jokes, “It’s so nice to have you around my house!” Chance drops his mic and the group laughs. “Teach me your ways, Blake,” he jokes.

The Voice season 23 kicks off Monday March 6

The Voice season 23 premieres on NBC Monday March 6 and Tuesday March 7. The new cycle will feature fewer contestants than last season. The Blind Auditions will conclude with a Top 40. Nearly the entire season will be taped, outside of two weeks of live shows. There are no Battle Advisors this time, but country icon Reba McEntire will serve as Knockout round mega mentor on Blake Shelton’s last season. Check out all the format changes for season 23 HERE.
