The Voice 23: Kelly Clarkson’s “Playoffs Pass” D. Smooth’s Silky Khalid Cover
The Voice season 23 Playoffs conclude with Team Kelly Clarkson and Team Niall Horan on Monday (May 8). By the end of the episode, the Top 8 artists heading into the LIVE semi-finals will be revealed.
Here’s a sneak peak from NBC of Kelly’s Playoffs Pass singer, D. Smooth performing Khalid’s “Location.” In the Battles, Kelly put him together with fellow teammate ALI. After their performance of Allen Stone’s “Unaware,” the Kelly put ALI through to the Knockouts, but saved D Smooth with her one and only Playoffs Pass. The special pass gave an artist a ticket straight into the Playoffs without needing to compete in the Knockouts.
“I really have not been worried at all until right now”
“That was insane,” Chance the Rapper said afterward. “There was a lot of improv in it. You started making it your own song. I can picture you in front of hundreds of thousands of fans screaming while you do your improv. I see the vision. This was the first time I felt smoke from any other team. I really have not been worried at all until right now.”
“I don’t know that anybody has ever lived up to their name quite like you,” Blake Shelton commented. “Whatever trickery that was with the microphone there at the end, I’m going to be doing that now, just so you know. I will give you credit.”
“D. Smooth, giving the people what they want,” Niall said. “It was like one of those songs you would never do the same twice. I just feel for Kelly. Your best performance on the show so far.”
“It’s my favorite thing you’ve ever done on the show,” Kelly remarked. “It’s funny because Niall brought it up and you were laughing about it, but you sing it different every time. It’s almost like it’s your song. It’s a very rare thing. Congratulations. Awesome.”
D. Smooth competes with ALI, Holly Brand, Neil Salsich and Cait Martin for two spots in the semifinals.
The Voice 23 Playoffs part 2 airs on NBC Monday May 8 at 8 pm ET/PT.
