The Voice 23 Battles: Kylee Dayne and Mary Kate Connor Fight for a Spot on Team Blake
The Voice 23 Battles continue on Tuesday (March 28). Fighting for a spot on Team Blake Shelton are Kylee Dayne and Mary Kate Connor performing Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”
In a preview clip from the episode, the two singers begin their battle back-to-back before separating and reaching out for each other’s hands. It’s the battle of the beautiful tones as the two artists sing sweet and soaring harmonies.
“Holy moly!” exclaims Niall Horan after the exquisite performance. “That was honestly one of my favorite ones…it’s not easy to come out and sing a current song that’s huge. People have been listening to the Taylor version since it came out, and you’ve made it completely your own.”
Niall remembers Kylee’s audition, “Falling Water,” and remarks that “Anti-Hero” is in the same wheelhouse. But, he would lean toward Mary Kate. He feels that her voice pierced through, “It gave me goosebumps, to be honest!”
“It seems like y’all grew up together, because it was so insync,” Chance The Rapper noted. “The harmonies meshed so well. Y’all should record a cover!” Chance would go with Kylee, feeling that she “had a sense of control, and a sense of self.” He believes she could win the whole competition.
Kelly Clarkson thinks Kylee’s voice “has this thing that singers get jealous of.” She adds, “No matter what you sing, it’s always going to sound special.” But also, Mary Kate has “this passion that’s really breathtakingly beautiful.” She calls the Battle evenly matched.
Blake admits that he’s been dreading this particular decision. “It makes it extra tough because I can see how close you guys have grown together.” He adds, “And I’m just proud and excited to have a pairing like you on my last season.”
He mentions that both singers are talented singer-songwriters and will succeed in the business, but has trouble spitting the words out. Kelly jokes, “Have another!” Blake responds by taking a big sip of his beverage as the panel and audience crack up.
Who will win the Battle? Will Blake hand the Playoffs Pass to the loser? Or will she be stolen by another coach? Blake has yet to use his Pass or his Steal. Kelly and Niall have both used up their Steals. Chance the Rapper still has a Steal and is the only coach so far to use his Pass.
