The Voice 22: Bodie’s Unique The Fray Cover Gets a 4-Chair Turn

The Voice 22 Blind Audition Bodie You Found Me

California boy, Bodie impressed The Voice coaches with his unique take on The Fray’s “You Found Me,” set to air on the upcoming 5th audition episode.

The 29 year old singer, with his wife and son backstage to cheer him on, got John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello and Blake Shelton all to turn their chairs.

During Bodie’s energetic and almost upbeat version of the song, Blake is the first to hit his button. He jumps out of his chair, nearly cursing John when he turns quickly afterward. Gwen is next, and finally, after sarcastic encouragement from Blake, Camila turns to complete the 4-chair turn.

“Blake is having a really, really bad run this season,” teases Camila. “I’m really curious to hear the thirst and desperation emanating from you.”

Blake agrees that he’s desperate. One narrative this season has Blake losing badly against everyone else, including his wife Gwen, and particularly to new coach Camila. He’s so “desperate” that he plays the “hit my button first” card which is typically John’s go-to move.

“You have what it takes to make it to the finale of The Voice

“Your voice is incredible,” Blake gushes. “I don’t know why…but we seem to be having more rock sounding artists auditioning this year.” Blake grumbles that he loves rock, but can hardly get any rock artists on his team. “I love your voice,” Blake says. “Everybody is going to remember you–the way you look, the way you sound…you have what it takes to make it to the finale of The Voice. You just have to pick the right coach that can get you there.”

When he emphasises his seniority, Camila quips, “Grandpa Blake! Abuelo Blake!” to which Blake responds, “I would be honored to be Abuelo Blake.”

Gwen loved the performance. “You have such an incredible tone and it’s just rare.” She adds, “I can hear you do so many songs where they have these soaring melodies.” However, Gwen believes that his “alternative” side would be a “cool place to go. That’s where my background is.”

“I have been around for a long time”

“I have been around for a long time,” Gwen says. She typically doesn’t point out that she’s the senior member of whatever The Voice panel she is sitting on. The pop star has been putting out major label records since the early 90s.  But lately, she’s been leaning into her experience as an elder in the music business. “I’ve toured the world.” She mentions winning the show with Carter Rubin. “This is my time in my life to give back to somebody like you that has a dream. I’m ready to do it.”

John calls Bodie’s vocal presence “robust” and notes that he put “a certain amount of soul” on the performance that made it so “cool and such a different take.”  John doesn’t push that hard to get Bodie. Blake wants him real bad, but Gwen also had a really good pitch.

Which team will Bodie choose? Find out when The Voice Blind Auditions 5 airs on NBC Monday October 3 at 8 pm ET/PT.
