UPDATED: NBC officially announces that pop star Ed Sheeran is The Voice season 21 mega-mentor!
We originally reported on August 17 that Ed Sheeran served as The Voice 21 mega mentor. Today (Oct 5) NBC makes it official!
Alongside superstar coaches Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, John Legend and Blake Shelton, Ed Sheeran mentors the remaining artists who have made it through the Battle Rounds, as each team prepares for the Knockouts, beginning Monday, Oct. 25 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT).
During the Knockout Rounds, artists are paired against a teammate once more, but select their own song to perform individually while their direct competitor watches and waits.
Utilizing his vast experience in songwriting, musical production and performing to provide multi-faceted mentorship, Ed will guide the artists in their vocal and technical choices and tailor the artists’ songs to their strengths to bolster each performance. Coaches alone choose the winner from their team to advance to the Live Playoffs. Each coach has one steal in the Knockouts.
But first, The Battle Rounds begin next Monday, October 11.
It seems, with The Voice only airing once a season, NBC is filling the show with superstar artists. For instance, the Battle Advisors are mostly all chart topping singers. Blake Shelton has teamed with country superstar Dierks Bentley. Kelly Clarkson teamed with another country music favorite, Jason Aldean. John Legend chose pop songstress Camila Cabello. And newest The Voice coach, and a major chart topper in her own right, Ariana Grande has joined forces with Broadway favorite, Kristin Chenoweth.

NBC officially announced The Voice season 21 Battle Round advisors earlier this week. But now, here’s a tiny spoiler that’s not OFFICIAL yet. The Knockouts were taped last week, and according to fans who attended the tapings British pop star Ed Sheeran served as Mega Mentor for the contestants.
The info comes from Idol Forums, a site that has an excellent track record for spoilers. Spoiler: Most likely true.
Currently, Ed is riding high on the charts with his last single “Bad Habits.” As of this week, “Bad Habits” sits at No. 3 and climbing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Voice will return to 12 member teams this season and air on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits is his first single since 2019
Ed Sheeran has spent the last few years out of the spotlight following his two-year Divide tour and the arrival of his first daughter. The singer-songwriter marks his official return with the euphoric, song-of-summer contender, “Bad Habits.”
“Bad Habits” marks the singer’s first official release since 2019’s No.6 Collaborations Project, which includes the multi-platinum, chart-topping hits “I Don’t Care (with Justin Bieber)” and “Beautiful People (feat. Khalid),” and features guest appearances from 22 of his favorite artists including Travis Scott, Eminem, Bruno Mars, Cardi B and Camila Cabello, just to name a few.
Ed Sheeran is currently recording his new album.
