The Voice 19 Knockouts continue on Monday! Check out this performance from Jus Jon performing Bruno Mars’ “Finesse” vs Jim Ranger singing Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” for a spot on Team Blake Shelton.
It’s two very different performances from two VERY different artists. I’m not sure what Blake is trying to accomplish here, actually. Jim, a former American Idol contestant, delivers an emotional and simple performance, while Jus Jon tears up the stage with an upbeat number.
John Legend compares Jus Jon to mega mentor Usher, while noting he performed with charisma and charm. He calls Jim’s song choice “lovely” and felt his well worn “rugged” vocals were well suited to the material.
Gwen Stefani was blown away by Jus Jon’s dancing. She loves his vibe, and can’t believe he’s not signed. She’s a major fan of Jim, she says, “You just shine so bright, I feel you could win this show.”
Kelly Clarkson loves Jus Jon’s energy, and notes that he has a lot of chest voice. But she leans toward Jim because “song selection is key.”
Jim becomes very emotional describing why he chose the song. “This is that generational song that you pass down.” After collecting himself, he explains, “I’ve got two knucklehead boys, and they’re awesome. This is one of those songs we sit around and listen to, with my dad, my boys. And I just think more than anything. I want people to be nice humans.”
Kelly says, “You want to be vessels for something amazing.” But then gesturing to Jus Jon, “Or fun! ‘Cause I like the fun song too!” Ha. Poor Jus Jon. It would be shocking if Blake actually chose him.
To find out who won the knockout, and if the eliminated contestant is stolen, tune in to The Voice on NBC Monday November 23 at 8 pm ET/PT.
