The Voice Top 9 will perform for your votes on Monday May 11. Typically, at this point, artists advance independent of their team affiliation. If a coach has a bunch of talented artists, they can dominate the finals, while weaker teams are shut out. But this season, the finals will include one member from each team plus a wildcard

A quick recap of NBC’s announcement: The Top vote getting artist from each team will advance to the Top 5. The remaining artists will sing for a wildcard.

So, that complicates my power list! Here’s what to keep in mind: Spots 1-4 are the artists I think have the best chance RIGHT NOW to advance to the finale. Spots 5-9 are ordered according to best chance to win the wildcard.

The new format puts the strong artists on Team Blake Shelton at a disadvantage. In the old format, Toneisha Harris would have sailed into the finals, in my opinion. Now she’ll have to fight for her spot. She’ll probably win, but nevertheless, she’s now not a shoe-in.

Also, there are a couple of artists who I believe have a better chance of advancing to the finals in an upset, than winning the wildcard.

I wonder what the thinking is here? Maybe the producers don’t want any teams dominating the finals. Or maybe they are keeping the results as simple to produce as possible. Because last week’s live reveal was kind of a hot mess, to be honest.

The Voice 18 Top 9 Power List

9. Joanna Serenko – Team Blake – Joanna is a very talented singer. In another season, she might have had a crack at the finals. But on Team Blake, she’s third in line behind two popular contestants. Plus, she needed a wildcard to get this far. As far as the wildcard is concerned, I think she’s dead last. She has virtually no path the the finals.

8. Megan Danielle – Team Kelly – I think the odds are in Micah’s favor for a spot on Team Kelly. But if Megan and Kelly pick the right song and she has an extraordinary night, Megan could slide into the finale. Micah had an off week, it could happen again.

7. Zan Fiskum – Team Legend – Like Megan, I think Zan has a long shot at the final if she picks a good song and nails it. But unlike Micah, CammWess’ performances have been consistently great. The wildcard is an even longer shot, That spot has Toneisha Harris’ name on it. Or, maybe Allegra Miles.

6. Allegra Miles – Team Nick – Allegra has no chance of beating standout artist Thunderstorm Artis for a spot in the final  But she does have a shot at winning the wildcard   That is if she picks a good song, and has an advantageous performance spot.  Also, Toneisha has to have a bad night, which she never does.

5. Toneisha Harris – Team Blake – Toneisha has a disadvantage in this new format.  She could beat CammWess or Micah Iverson head to head, but not her teammate Todd Tilghman. And probably not Thunderstorm Artis either. But she’s likely gonna crush the wildcard.

4. CammWess – Team Legend – Cam has been a consistently great performer throughout the competition. If he keeps doing his thing, he’ll slide into the finals, no problem.

3. Micah Iverson – Team Kelly – Another coach might have ditched Micah in an earlier round. But Kelly has a soft spot for him, and to be honest, so do I. Micah and teammate Danielle have both been a little inconsistent. I think Micah has the fanbase, however. Megan has a chance, but I think Micah has this.

2. Thunderstorm Artis – Team Nick – I think we’re looking at our Top 2 right here. I don’t understand why John gave Thunderstorm up. His performances never disappoint. He has a knack for covering songs in a fresh and beautiful way. He’s going to sail straight through to the finals.

1. Todd Tilghman – Team Blake – I think we have our winner here. Todd ticks all the boxes: Likable, relatable, retro appeal to The Voice’s older demo. He’s got a raspy voice, and a big range. And years of singing in church has taught him how to connect to a song.

The Voice semi-final performances airs Monday May 12, the results Tuesday May 13 on NBC at 8 pm ET/PT. Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Nick Jonas coach. Carson Daly hosts.
