How to Vote on The Voice 17: Everything You Need to Know (Bye Twitter!)

Carson explains tonight’s results: The Top Two vote getters from each team will advance automatically. Each coach will save ONE singer. One top vote getter from each team will sing for the instant save.

Four singers will compete for the wildcard, so Carson is SPEEDING through these results. So far, the saves from Gwen and Kelly are…I don’t get the thought process. Shane Q was easily the worst performer last night. He doesn’t have the confidence to move on. And I can’t believe Gwen chose Myracle Holloway over the talented Kyndal Inskeep

Blake Shelton announces that John Legend is the 2019 People Magazine Sexiest Man Alive. Blake won the honor a few years ago, hence he made the introduction. Blake gifts John with a sparkly set of short shorts. John jokes that he learned everything he needed to know JUST from sitting by Blake. John says his wife, Chrissy Teigen, is legit proud of him.

Carson calls the remaining singers back on stage in order to announce the Wildcard singers.

Team Blake – Ricky and Gracee – Gracee is the artist with the highest number of votes
Team Gwen – Jake and Kyndal – Jake is the artist with the highest number of votes
Team Kelly – Damali and Hello Sunday – Hello Sunday are the artists with the highest number of votes
Team Legend – Alex and Khalea – Alex is the artist with the highest number of votes

Singing for the Save: Gracee Shriver, Jake HaldenVang, Hello Sunday, Alex Guthrie

Gracee Shriver – Team Blake – Landslide – I like Gracee’s vibrato and classic country sound. But her phrasing and pitch is uneven. I don’t think she did enough to advance.  One of Blake’s friends says “Don’t riskit, no biscuit.” He claims that he left her for the wildcard because he’s sure she’ll win. Hm.

Jake HaldenVang – Team Gwen – There’s Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendes – He should have gone for an old school classic rock song. He’s a rocker. Watered down pop isn’t going to cut it here. Gwen calls Jake incredible. She reminds America that Will wanted to record him. Beg beg beg Gwen!

Hello Sunday – Team Kelly – All By Myself by Eric Carmen (YEAH I KNOW CELINE) – To say the tweens bit off more than they could chew is putting it mildly. Not only is the song a huge challenge, but the young ones seem to be cracking under pressure. Going for that big note was a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad idea. Girls, go home and practice more. Good lawd. Kelly is an amazing actress, feigning shock all WHAT WHAT WHAT THAT WAS SO GREAT. No Kelly. It was horrible, and you know it.

Alex Guthrie – Team Legend – Stay by Rihanna – Again, Alex delivers a satisfactory performance. He’s actually stepping up under pressure. For that reason, he should probably get the Wildcard. But while his tone is pleasant, there is a disconnect when he sings. John calls him a storyteller, and the performance a tour de force. “You deserve to STAY on The Voice,” says John. Meh.

OK the vote. NO TWITTER THIS SEASON. Vote on The Voice Official App and on The Voice.com. You have five minutes to vote!

Results! Hello Sunday WINS the Wild Card. What WHaT WHAT??? The girls delivered their worst performance to date. Both singers were out of tune throughout, screeching out high notes by the end. COMPLETELY OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE.  I figured either Gracee or Alex would win the WC. What a weird result.

Anytime there is a large field of competitors and many eliminations, there will be unpredictable results. However, I have several bones of contention here. I literally would have swapped in all four contestants eliminated from singing for the WC. In other words, Damali, Ricky Braddy, Kyndal Inskeep and Kahlea Lynee should have been singing for the save tonight.  Damli and Kyndal are interesting, unique voices. Ricky is a better soul singer than Alex. And Khalea’s jazzy vibe and artistry would have brought so much to the competition.

What’s more, Kelly should have saved Damali instead of Shane Q and Kyndal Inskeep should have been Gwen’s save instead of Myracle Holloway. Kyndal, Damli and Kahlea all deserve to still be in it.

Next week, The Top 13 sing DEDICATIONS. On Tuesday, two singers go home after the bottom 3 sing for th save.
