The Voice Knockouts Khalea Lynee and James Violet

The Voice 17 Knockout continue tonight (Oct 29) with Mega Mentor Taylor Swift. Check out a preview of a Team John Legend battle between R&B singer Khalea Lynee and pop artist James Violet.

They two artists have completely different styles, but bring their own strengths to the Knockout. Khalea is up first with a performance of the classic late 90s Diane Warren ballad “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion. James is next with a cover of Post Malone’s “Stay.”

Gwen Stefani rubs it in that James left her for Team Legend. Oops. Maybe she can steal him back if John chooses Khalea. But maybe not–she notes that he “oversung” at some points. Kelly Clarkson compliments Khalea for making a Celine Dion song seem easy to sing. Blake Shelton was surprised by James’ range. “You hit some notes in there. I didn’t think you had those cards to play.” But it was Khalea that blew him away, observing how she “slaps those notes with her hand!” He added, “When you’re singing and you’re in the zone, you’re as powerful a human being as there is on the planet.”

John complimented James for his approach and for following he and Taylor’s notes, while comparing Khalea to the late Whitney Houston. Who will John choose? The Voice airs on NBC at 8 pm ET/PT.
