The Voice 10 Blind Auditions 1 – Take the Polls!

What do YOU think happened to the coaches performance that traditionally kicks off the new season? The panel couldn’t carve out the time to choose a song and rehearse? Or is it something more…gossipy. Hm. In any case, I kinda missed it!

The Voice premiere was like any other in recent memory. A big buzzy audition, with several more front loaded four chair turns. Tonight’s showcase performance was from Alisan Porter AKA Curly Sue AKA the kid who barfed on Steve Martin. She has an impressive list of credentials, but today, at age 34, she’s a stay at home mom ready to get back in the game! Despite sitting out showbiz for a few years to raise a kid and get sober, she was miles ahead of the rest of the pack in terms of experience and performance skills.

But before ya’ll crown her the inevitable winner, remember that she lacks something important. A penis. Yes, it’s season 10, as the opening montage reminded us. The show has evolved since Cassadee PopeDanielle Bradbery and Tessanne Chin won seasons 3, 4 and 5 respectively. There hasn’t been a female winner since. If an appealing male captures the audience’s fancy, he won’t even have to sing half as well in order to waltz out a winner. Will the producers even care? The Voice is due a female winner, we’ll see if it happens.

By the way, Alisan is also AKA good friend to American Idol singer Adam Lambert from way back. She co-wrote a song with him, “Aftermath,” that appeared on his debut album. Wouldn’t it be grand if she performed it? It’s actually a gorgeous tune.

Despite the coaches going bonkers over several hopefuls, I have to say I wasn’t really blown away by anybody new. My favorites tonight were girls. I wonder if the Top 48 will be stuffed with mediocre boys. Hm. There are more than 3 weeks of Blind Auditions this season, hopefully the middle episodes don’t sag.

My favorite’s tonight were Alisan, Caity Peters and Abby Celso. What were yours? Click to check out my full recap and live blog.

That’s me. Now it’s YOUR turn to vote.

Correction:  No slight to Tess!  Just a late night brain fart that I regrettably left her off the list of female winners. I haven’t even looked through the comments yet.
