The Masked Singer Premiere Ratings Impressive, Win the Night

Earning a robust 2.9 in the key 18-49 demo and more than 9 million viewers, the series, which features celebrities singing dressed in elaborate costumes, is the top-rated  series premiere of 2018-19 so far, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition: The show also had the second-best premiere among adults 18-49 of any non-sports series this season. The demo rating trails only NBC’s popular hit drama This Is Us which earned a 3.0 last fall. The Masked Singer’s  9.21 million viewers represents the best debut by a FOX series this season by more than a million people. It ranks fifth among series premieres across all the broadcast networks.

And that’s not all. The show garnered the top 18-49 rating for any FOX show in nearly a year, since a Simpsons episode following an NFL playoff game on Jan. 14, 2018 earned a 3.3. It was the best unscripted series premiere on FOX since The X Factor  back in September 2011, not including post-NFL premieres.

It’s not American Idol ratings in its heyday, but in terms of today’s broadcast ratings, it’s a massive hit and easily  this season’s competitive reality breakout.  Now, let’s see if the show can sustain the numbers over its 9 week season.
