The Masked Singer 9 Recap: The Finale RESULTS

The final two celebrity contestants–Macaw and Medusa–will each perform two all-new songs in the The Masked Singer season 9 finale episode. Both will be revealed – but only one will take home the Golden Mask trophy and be crowned the Season Nine Winner!

Featuring Nick Cannon as host, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger on the judges panel.

Macaw – First Peformance

Clues: He’s becoming a new person. Being the Macaw allows him to tap more deeply into his emotions. He wasn’t sure he could be in a situation where he was judged again. “Maybe tonight I will finally win.”

Performance: Hold Back the River by James Bay – Macaw comes through again with a beautifully phrased and EMOTIONAL cover of this pop hit. He’s got the gospel choir backing! And he ends the song as always–stage flying! Jenny guesses Neil Patrick Harris. LMAO NO. Nicole guesses David Archuleta or Darren Criss.

Medusa – 1st Performance

Clues: She’s grateful to have a powerful costume. She’s going on tour soon. She namecheccks Jewel.

Performance: Elastic Heart by Sia – Medusa has a powerful but off-beat vocal style. She’s an evocative, stylistic singer. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea however. She shouts and screams and pours her heart out. But it could seem over the top to some fans. Jenny guesses Fergie. Hm. no. Robin guesses Grimes. Nicole guesses Bishop Briggs because Jewel covered “River.” DING DING DING.

Macaw – Second Performance

Clues: He shares about a major injury that kept him silent for three months. He wondered about his life choices. Should he stay in music? He decided yes. He finally realizes he deserves to be loved.

Performance: All By Myself by Eric Carmen – It’s an overdone song on talent shows. I prefer Macaw’s first performance. But this is still pretty showstopping and emotional. He pushes himself in every way both personally and vocally. Robin is standing on his desk! The crowd goes nuts. He talks about the feeling of anxiety he had coming into the show He’s near tears. “It’s been a difficult couple of years. I’m truly humbled,” he says.

Medusa – Second Performance

Clues: She had to fight hard to get here. California Roll beat her. She won the Wildcard. And then SHE beat California Roll. She wants to make her son proud.

Performance: Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance – This is s a good song choice for her. But will the voters like it? Will they prefer Macaw’s crowd pleasing song choices or will they appreciate Medusa’s unique and out of the box style? Medusa is also very emotional. It’s her sister’s favorite song. “Sadly she’s no longer here….for my spirit and soul I really needed this,” she says.

AND THE WINNER IS…Medusa. Macaw is the runner-up

This season’s winner of The Masked Singer is….Medusa. BOOOOOOOO. Macaw is the runner up. Second place forever! Final Macaw guesses before he unmasks: Robin: Jason Mraz. Jenny: Neil Patrick Harris Nicole: David Archuleta Ken: David Archuleta. Ken loved American Idol season 7 the year David came in second place to David Cook! He remembers “Imagine.” It brought him and his wife to tears. And Macaw takes off his mask and OF COURSE IT’S DAVID ARCHULETA!!! David says the experience was fun and healing. Aw. Ken is near tears. His wife was pregnant and on bedrest in 2008. I’ll bet he knew all along it was David.

Winner Medusa is Unmasked: Last guesses. Robin: Grimes Ken: Susan Boyle LOL. Jenny: Fergie. Nicole: Bishop Briggs. Nicole is two for two tonight. And Medusa is…Bishop Briggs! “This is so cool!” she says. She congratulates David Archuleta. He *hearts* her back.

Like many of you, I was hoping that David Archuleta would FINALLY win a singing show. Nevertheless, he lasted until the finale, which is probably all that matters. That, and the paycheck. A competition like The Masked Singer is both financially lucrative and low stakes. It’s all good. The semi-finals and finals both featured world-class singers (California Roll aka Pentatonix was eliminated last week) which made both episodes enjoyable to watch.
