The Bachelor 2019 Season Extended at the Expense of American Idol

THE BACHELOR - "2302" - ColtonÕs search for love starts with laughs, surprises and intense face-offs between the women. The first date of the season has eight hopeful bachelorettes sharing personal stories about their "firsts" - with Colton and a live audience Ð and coached by happily married masters of comedy Megan Mullally ("Will & Grace") and Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation"). Hannah B. scores the first one-on-one date on her birthday, including dinner on The Queen Mary. Twelve eager women attend "Camp Bachelor" with a decidedly unorthodox camp counselor, actor and comedian Billy Eichner, who oversees three challenging contests. However, some ill-timed drama the night of the rose ceremony might lead to certain ladies being left without a rose on "The Bachelor," MONDAY, JAN. 14 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network. How will Colton Underwood’s journey to find love end? Well, it’s going to take longer than we thought it would! Colton’s  exploration to find a “lifetime of happiness and his soulmate” will come to a close with the live, two-night Season Finale event on The Bachelor, Monday March 11 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), and Tuesday March 12 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on  ABC. Colton will join host Chris Harrison and a studio audience on both nights as America watches his “gut-wrenching” journey conclude!

The dates are notable. American Idol was originally scheduled to air on Monday March 4 and Monday March 11. But with The Bachelor garnering great ratings this season–a 1.8 in the 18-49 demo in the last two weeks–it makes sense  for ABC to lengthen the season. Can the second season of American Idol earn ratings as high as a 1.8 on ABC? That question remains to be answered.  The expensive-to-produce American Idol is going to need to rack up good numbers in order to stick around for a third season. FYI: The executives who greenlighted the show last season are no longer with Disney…

The virgin Bachelor Colton has been waiting for a woman he truly loves before committing himself to a full physical relationship. Will any of these beautiful, accomplished potential partners be invited to the fantasy suite? Watch the surprising outcome on, The Bachelor Monday March 4 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on ABC.

The Bachelor: The Women Tell All will air on a special night, Tuesday March 5 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on ABC. The “sparks will fly and the claws come out” as Colton faces the women he rejected, including some of the most controversial and memorable bachelorettes from this season.

Emily will be snarking her way through all the drama, so make sure to join her as she live blogs the rest of the season. *Everything in quotes comes from the official ABC press release.
