The Masked Singer tour featured a third American Idol alum on Friday July 8 when American Idol season 5 winner Taylor Hicks took the stage in Memphis Tennessee.
The Masked Singer’s Instagram account posted a clue package for Taylor ahead of his performance as Boom Boom Box. Each city on the tour features a different “celebrity” who reveals themselves after performing.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to see you all tonight,” Taylor’s clue package reads. “Being on stage, I feel the most at home, and getting to sing for you all is my happy place. There’s nothing better. And while I know a thing or two about winning, tonight is just really about having an incredible time!”
The clue continued: “Today, Boom Boom Box has become my idol. I feel like the stars are aligned this evening and together we are going to make magic onstage! And ohhh there’s going to be surprises, so if I were you I wouldn’t even miss 5 seconds…because here on the Masked Singer Tour, you never know what to expect!”
“If you see me later make sure to say hello, but if we don’t get a chance to meet, catch me out of the road,” the clue concluded, “I’m always up for a good time! Alright, I better warm up. See you all soon!”
Of course “winner” and “Idol” are huge clues!
Taylor sang “I’ve Got Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks. That voice is unmistakable! Watch it below.
Pop singer Natasha Bedingfield hosts the tour, which is based on the popular FOX singing competition, which features celebrities dressed in elaborate costumes. It’s up to the panel and fans and home to comb through clues to figure out who is singer is behind the mask.
The tour’s guests, who all perform in the “Boom Boom Box” costume, are usually local celebrities. But a few American Idol alums have appeared in various cities. Season 4 alum Constantine Maroulis appeared in Boston, while season 16 winner, Maddie Poppe served as the special guest in Omaha.
