Taylor Hicks performed “7 Mile Breakdown” on the Wendy Williams Show today.  Check out Wendy grooving in the audience!  Ha!

  1. Taylor sounded great. This swamp blues music suits him perfectly…a much better fit than Pop 40 and Grease.

  2. I love that Wendy has been inviting lots of Idols onto her show lately. I think I might be getting a soft spot for her. How you doin’?

I saw Taylor in Grease. He was Awesome. A great song for him. Grease gave him lots of new fans. I had to wait in a very long line to get a cd and a picture.
Thanks so much for the video mj. Taylor is a fantastic performer. I wish I lived in the northeast so I could go see him at one of his shows, or all of them.

  4. Loved Taylor’s appearance on the Wendy Williams show today. I’m glad you took my suggestion to post the video on your blog.

Southern rock, jazzy blues, Joe Cocker/Van Morrison soul, and rock-a-billy roadhouse music is where Taylor broke onto the music scene. After his AI win, the label pushed him and other contestants to record the Pop 40 records that comprise the bulk of the winners’ first albums. I believe Taylor has spoken often of returning to the music he loves and he is now doing that very thing on his own label – Whomp Records. Good for him.

As for Grease and Broadway, seems like everybody is doing it and making the money while the timing is right. Grease was good for Taylor and vice versa — everyone made money which I beleve is the goal of all artists. I applaud all those who appeared on AI for continuing to forge new paths in their careers. As they ALL have said, AI is a “platform” into another level of the music business. They have all be very vocal in stating their appreciation for the opportunities the show has given them but it is up to the artists to make the decisions that will help them build on the start the show gave them in the business.

  5. At 6’1″, Taylor doesn’t often look up to see a woman’s face. Wendy is a tall lady! Even if she has on heels, she’s tall as a model. Enjoyed her interviews – she’s very polished.
Good song, good looks, good performance, good guy! Looking forward to seeing Taylor on American Idol next year and in his upcoming acting roles.

  6. I love that song for Taylor. Yes, the first CD was definately the music AI wanted him to do. He did get 3 of his originals on there, but of course those were not the singles. The second CD is much more his style, and he always has fun performing this song. I’m a big Taylor fan, although I was never one to ooh and ahh or go gaga over his looks, but I have to say he looked REAAAALLLLY good here, and he looked like he was having fun too. Now I’m curious about the TV/movie roles he’s been offered. Good for him!

  7. 7 Mi Breakdown is one of my fave Taylor songs from The Distance cd. I love it when he sings it standing and moving but this one was spot on and really great. It seems each time he sings it it is better than the time before. I get to see him on the 25th of this month in Sequim WA. From all reports this tour has been outstanding and I’m excited about seeing Taylor performing live again. He is the consumate live entertainer. Thanks for posting this vid. WW does not come on here until 10 pm tonight. Ü

  8. According to Wiki, Wendy is 6′ but I think today she was talking about having on 5″ heels. I wouldn’t wear that height heels and I’m 5’l and could use the height! :D :D

  9. “I have been offered some film and TV roles.”

    I’m liking that!!! :) :)

  10. Thanks for posting this, mj! Great song – should have been on radio, it not being played just enhances my opinion that he’s been black-balled as far as radio/video channels. I love that he’s always well-groomed for his appearances.

  11. I’ve seen him perform this song a lot. Hands down this is my favorite. Perfect pitch and the tone in his voice so very rich. I love the Taylor swagger. He was fantastic. The gray will stay. You go Taylor!!

Totally. Taylor is great and definitely knows who he is as an artist. He is doing exactly that, forging ahead making music and doing what he loves for a living. How many people can say that they love their job? not many. I could see Taylor and Crystal working together on a song/project.
