Survivor Season 48 Week 9 Recap

The episode begins with the castaways returning to camp after tribal council. Ozzy says he and Cirie struck first against Christian. He knew Christian was targeting him. He feels good that people have his back. Emily says she is devastated for being on the wrong side of the vote. She doesn’t know where this leaves her now. Emily says she feels like a pariah in the camp. Rick is disappointed Christian is gone. He was his #1 ally. Rick tells Emily they have nothing to lose, so they can come up with a crazy plan together.

The next morning, we hear a confessional from Aubry. She compares the game to chess. She wants to figure out how the remaining people in the game benefit her like the remaining pieces on a chess board. Later, Rick comes clean to everybody about the fake idol and how he planted it at tribal council. Joe is bothered by all the lies and deception. In his confessional, he calls Rick public enemy #1.

It’s time for the Survivor Auction. Jeff hints that some items will be good and some will be bad. They will get comfort or unleash chaos. Jeff presents the first item: French fries and onion rings. Rick ends up buying it. Jeff lets him know there is no chaos with this purchase.

Jeff presents the second item: a chocolate milkshake. Emily ends up purchasing it for $100. Jeff says there is no chaos with this purchase either. The third item is a snack tray with vegetables and crackers. Jonathan buys it for $80. The fourth item is covered. It’s a two-person shared item. One person will buy it, and then he or she will pick whom to share it with. Aubry buys it for $280. She chooses to share it with Rizo before Jeff reveals the items. One is comfort. One is chaos. The comfort is chocolate chip cookies with milk. The chaos is two grubs. The two grubs must be eaten in an allotted time before they can get the reward. Aubry eats both of the grubs. She and Rizo get the cookies and milk.

We next see Cirie purchase a blanket for $180, Stephenie purchase grilled cheese for $260, and Cirie purchase toothpaste and mouthwash for $20. Afterwards, Jeff presents another shared covered item. Jonathan purchases it for $320, and he chooses to share it with Ozzy. One person will get fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The other will get a sea slug. The sea slug must be eaten before the other player can receive the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Jonathan gets to choose which covered item to pick, and he picks the sea slug. He eats the sea slug, allowing Ozzy to enjoy the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Jonathan isn’t allowed to have any. We next see Cirie purchase a charcuterie board, Rizo get chicken and a protein shake, Ozzy buy a cake, Jonathan purchase a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and Aubry get macaroni and cheese.

Jeff says everyone must contribute for the last item. Everyone gives $20 for the last mystery item. Jeff reveals what it is: letters from home. However, there’s a twist. Jeff invites Mr. Beast to present the final chaos of the auction. There is a Super Beware advantage inside Mr. Beast’s briefcase. They will find out what it is at tonight’s tribal council. Jeff also lets them know that they will be going right into an immunity challenge now. Their letters from home will be waiting for them back at camp after the challenge.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. It’s an endurance challenge requiring them to stand on a beam while balancing a ball on a wooden bow. If they step off the beam or drop their ball, then they are eliminated. The last person standing will win immunity. The challenge begins, and Stephenie is the first to drop her ball. Rizo drops his ball next.

The remaining castaways advance to the next stage of the challenge. They must stand on a narrower part of the beam. The challenge continues, and Cirie drops her ball next. Aubry is the next one eliminated. The remaining castaways advance to the final section of the beam. Rick is the next one to fall, and he’s followed by Emily. Jonathan drops next. Joes is the next one out. It’s now a showdown between Tiffany and Ozzy. Ozzy falls. Tiffany wins immunity! Tiffany was voted out on Day 19 the last time she played. Today is Day 19, so she’s emotional and relieved that she will not be voted out tonight.

The castaways return to camp. Before the scramble before the vote, they all read their letters from home. They’re all emotional and crying as they hear from their loved ones. Next, we see Aubry talk to Stephenie and Jonathan about the vote. They agree they need to take out a big threat. Jonathan says Rick is the easy vote, but he can be used to take out a bigger threat like Ozzy. Jonathan comes up with a lie that Ozzy has been dropping Stephenie’s name. Jonathan wants to gather numbers to take out Ozzy, and Jonathan approaches Rick next about this plan with Stephenie and Aubry present.

Afterwards, Rick lets Emily know that Ozzy could be voted out tonight. Meanwhile, Jonathan talks to Joe about voting out Ozzy tonight. Joe says he’s in a tough spot. He’s been wanting to vote Rick out this entire game, but should he join this plan to blindside Ozzy? Afterwards, Joe lets Cirie know that Ozzy could be voted out tonight. Cirie is not on board with this plan. She says if they lose Ozzy, then Jonathan and Stephenie’s alliance will have the numbers. Cirie now wants Stephenie to go. Cirie tells Ozzy that the two of them, Rizo, and Stephenie can vote for Stephenie. She also wants to use her Extra Vote advantage against Stephenie.

Ozzy tells Jonathan they will be voting for Stephenie tonight. Jonathan says their plan has gone upside down. He gives Stephenie a heads up. She reveals to him she has a Steal-a-Vote advantage. Jonathan tells her to use it tonight. Stephenie lets Cirie know she knows the plan, but Cirie deflects. Stephenie asks Rick if he will vote for Cirie instead. She believes Ozzy will play his hidden immunity idol, so she wants to pivot to Cirie. Rick wonders if they should vote for Rizo instead. The plan continues to get more chaotic as multiple names are thrown out as options for tonight without a clear consensus. There’s also the Mr. Beast twist that could thwart any plans for tonight.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff talks about Mr. Beast first. Rick says they are “on their heels” to find out what this twist will be. Jeff asks about the scramble before the vote. Cirie says there is no fear like the fear of the unknown. Cirie says no plan lasted for 30 seconds before a new name was thrown out. Joe says they shouldn’t overthink it or let it overwhelm them. Stephenie says there was a simple plan, but then everyone started throwing out names to be the person leading the vote. Rick says he was the simple plan before revealing that Jonathan and Stephenie wanted to target Ozzy. He then reveals that Stephenie threw out Cirie’s name too. He also reveals that Stephenie and Jonathan were cool with voting out Rizo too. He also reveals that Stephenie has a Steal-a-Vote advantage.

Rick pitches that they all unite in voting out either Stephenie or Jonathan tonight. Jonathan and Stephenie deny this and say that Rick is lying. Stephenie tries to deny trying to lead a vote or target Ozzy, but it doesn’t seem like anyone believes her. Cirie says this is too much information at once. Rizo says it’s a lie to deny throwing out names. He says they should own up to their words instead of backing out.

Next, Jeff brings in Mr. Beast. He opens the briefcase to reveal the details of the Super Beware advantage. It’s a gold coin. One person will flip the coin. If he or she calls it correctly, then the prize money will increase to $2,000,000. In addition, that castaway will get an immunity idol. If they call it wrong, then he or she will be eliminated from the game tonight. Rick volunteers to flip the coin. He calls heads and flips the coin. The coin lands on heads. Rick is safe, he gets an idol, and the grand prize is now $2,000,000. There will also be a vote tonight.

There is whispering among the castaways to figure out the plan. We see Jonathan whisper Aubry’s name to Stephenie while another group throws out Stephenie’s name. We also see Stephenie suggest splitting the votes between Emily and Aubry. Rick tells Jonathan he’s hearing Stephenie’s name, and seconds later Jonathan tells Ozzy that Rick is lying about what he said earlier. Before the vote, Stephenie plays her Steal-a-Vote advantage. She chooses to steal Rick’s vote.

We see Stephenie cast two votes for Aubry, and Aubry vote for Stephenie. But who will be voted out tonight?

Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for…

Aubry

Stephenie

Aubry

Stephenie

Stephenie

Stephenie

Stephenie is the 15th person voted out and the 5th member of the jury. And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Survivor. Thanks for reading, and come back next week for another live recap.
