Survivor Season 48 Week 8 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Survivor 48 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

The episode begins with half the tribe returning to camp after voting out Sai. Chrissy immediately tells everyone she was just “talking smack” about eventually targeting strong guys like Joe and David. She doesn’t want them to think she’s targeting them, but she admits in her confessional that she does want them out sooner rather than later. Mitch is relieved to still be in the game, but he’s ready to take control. Later, the other half of the tribe return to camp. They all react to seeing it was Sai and Cedrek voted out. Mary is the last original Vulu tribe member remaining. She’s proud of herself.

Later, Shauhin and Joe catch up. Shauhin was nervous after seeing his name written down, but he’s relieved that David and Kyle had his back. He believes he can trust them. Shauhin also notes how David and Mary are close, and he shares this with Joe. Even though he trusts David, Shauhin doesn’t think he can trust Mary. He doesn’t have much of a relationship with her. Shauhin believes he can trust Kamilla more than Mary, but he knows David would rather bring Mary into their alliance. Regardless, he thinks he’s in a good spot in the game.

The next morning, Chrissy reads tree mail. The message hints they will be paired up at the upcoming challenge. Joe tells everyone to speak up for whom they want to pair up with. In his confessional, Joe admits he wants people to show their cards with their picks. Shauhin wants to be paired with Kamilla. David pairs up with Mary. In his confessional, Joe says he’s taking note of these pairings. Kyle pairs up with Chrissy, and Joe and Eva pair up. Star and Mitch are the last pair by default. In her confessional, Chrissy says Joe and Eva are running the show.

Later, Eva throws Chrissy under the bus to her allies. She tells everyone what Chrissy said yesterday. She said voting out Shauhin instead of Cedrek would be the “smart move.” Eventually, they all are in agreement that Chrissy should be their next target.

Meanwhile, Mitch says it’s an uphill battle for him. He wants the original Civa tribe members to band back together as a group of five and add Mary as their sixth. However, David wants to move forward with his alliance that includes Joe, Shauhin, and Eva. Kyle says it’s a difficult decision since he’s right in the middle. He’s says voting out the easy targets will give them less opportunity to make a big move down the line.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. They will compete in stages. The first stage requires them to race through a tunnel in the sand, dig up bags with planks, and then place a flag. The two pairs in last will be eliminated. The second stage requires them to use the planks to build steps to a staircase. They must then make a rope bridge and go across it. The last pair will be eliminated. The final stage will have them compete individually. It’s an endurance challenge that requires them to hold onto a pole as long as possible. The last person standing will win immunity. In addition, the final four in the challenge will win a taco reward. The first two pairs eliminated will have to risk their votes at a Journey.

The challenge begins. Joe and Eva are the first to complete the first stage. David and Mary are the second pair to finish. Kyle and Chrissy are the third pair to finish. Shauhin, Kamilla, Star, and Mitch are out of the challenge. For the second stage, David and Mary take the early lead and eventually reach the rope bridge first. Joe and Eva are currently in second place while Chrissy and Kyle fall behind. David and Mary complete the second stage first and move on to the final stage. Chrissy and Kyle are catching up to Joe and Eva, but they collapse and fall into the net underneath them. They need to start over while Joe and Eva are getting closer to the end. They reach the other side and officially move on to the final round. Chrissy and Kyle are out of the challenge. It’s now the final stage. David, Mary, Joe, and Eva are all hanging onto a pole. The last person hanging on will win immunity. David and Joe are the first to begin slipping. Joe falls first. He’s out of the challenge. David falls too. It’s now a showdown between Mary and Eva. Mary slips down the pole little by little while Eva looks solid. Mary drops. Eva wins immunity!

Kyle and Chrissy are the first to return to camp. They won’t be on the Journey or on the reward. They talk game, and Chrissy pitches voting out Joe tonight. Kyle throws out that Shauhin is the easy vote. In his confessional, Kyle says he has been putting the pieces to make Shauhin a target. However, he trusts Joe.

Next, we see Shauhin, Kamilla, Mitch, and Star arrive at the Journey. The four of them will play a game of luck. They must draw balls and place them in a chute. They can draw one or two balls at a time. The first player to have three red balls will lose his or her vote. They will also see which balls are coming up next as they pick balls. The challenge begins, and Star is the first to get a red ball. Mitch is the next one to get a red ball. Kamilla makes eyes to Mitch to let him know they should target Star. Star gets a second red ball thanks to Kamilla’s draw. Shauhin gets his first red ball next. Kamilla eventually gets a red ball too. Kamilla draws two balls again, forcing Star to get a third red ball. Star will not vote at tribal council tonight.

Meanwhile, Eva, Mary, David, and Joe enjoy their picnic reward. While eating, Eva notices a scroll under the chips. She keeps it a secret for now, especially since everyone already knows she has a hidden immunity idol in her possession. The four of them eventually talk game. David and Mary are worried about Shauhin and Kamilla making a move against them, but Joe trusts Shauhin 100%. David pitches targeting Kamilla instead of Chrissy. Mary agrees that Kamilla should be the vote tonight. Joe says he would be willing to vote out Kamilla if David and Mary are going to push so hard for it.

Later, after they return to camp, Eva reads her scroll. She has the chance to retrieve an advantage. She must sneak out of camp in the middle of the night to get it. Eva wants a secret advantage since everyone already knows she’s tight with Joe and has an idol.

Meanwhile, Joe and Kyle catch up. Joe lets Kyle know that David and Mary want to target Kamilla tonight. This alarms Kyle, and he says he will not vote for Kamilla tonight. Kyle also lets Joe know that Chrissy threw out his name earlier. Joe wonders why Kyle didn’t lead with this information. After hearing this, Joe would much rather vote out Chrissy tonight and then Kamilla tomorrow.

Kyle and David talk later. David wants to bring in Mary into their Strong Five alliance, and he says voting out Kamilla instead of Chrissy would be the better game move tonight. Kyle pushes back against this plan. David doesn’t know why Kyle is so unwilling to vote out Kamilla. Unbeknownst to David and everyone else, Kyle and Kamilla are each other’s strongest allies. They’ve been keeping it a secret that they are so close.

Kyle talks to Kamilla later, and he tells her that they need to vote for Chrissy tonight to save her. He also lets her know that David is targeting her. Later, Joe, David, Kyle, Mary, and Eva have a meeting to come to an agreement. Joe says Chrissy threw his name out, and he would rather vote her out. They take a vote, and Eva, David, and Mary say they would still rather vote out Kamilla. They outnumber Joe and Kyle’s preference to vote out Chrissy. Kyle still pushes back to try to save Kamilla, which makes David suspicious. He doesn’t understand why Kyle is trying so hard to save Kamilla. After the group conversation, David and Mary agree that Kamilla must be voted out tonight. Kyle and Joe talk later, and they agree that they could just flip and vote out Chrissy anyway.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff begins the talk by pointing out how they were all separated after the challenge. He asks what’s it been like. Kyle says that it’s been a long day. It’s taken a toll having so many conversations. Mary says conversations have been going in many different directions. Star says people have been talking to each other all day. People didn’t talk to her since she doesn’t have a vote. Kamilla says it sounds like people have been flipping back and forth all day. She says people should come to her for a solid alliance member. David says it’s a crucial part of the game, and everyone wants to figure out what is their best move. Chrissy agrees it’s time to play the game. She says she sees strong players taking over the game. Joe says that anyone can go home at any moment. Chrissy says she doesn’t want to see the “superman” guys take over the game. David is shaking his head. David wants to know why it’s so wrong for the strong guys to get together instead of allowing themselves to be used as shields. David says it sounds like Chrissy doesn’t want strong guys to make alliances, and he seems bothered by it. Kamilla insinuates that David and Chrissy are doing terribly at jury management. Chrissy also points out how Joe and Eva are tight duo, but this season it’s fine that there’s a duo that is so publicly closely aligned. Kamilla hopes she can prove to people that she’s on their side. Mitch says they have to come to tribal council with a plan, but the game is cutthroat. Sometimes you can’t stay loyal and save everyone. Kyle adds there are so many variables to take into consideration. He says “you have to make the decision that is right for you.” Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.

Jeff reads the vote. The first vote is for…

Chrissy

Shauhin

Chrissy

Chrissy

Chrissy

Chrissy

Chrissy is the ninth person voted out and the second member of the jury.
