Survivor 37 David vs Goliath Week 10 Recap and Live Blog

A two hour edition of Survivor: David vs. Goliath airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

The tribe returns to camp after tribal council. The Davids are celebrating their victory, and Carl feels like he should go down in Survivor history for playing his advantage correctly. Meanwhile, Angelina confronts Kara and Alec about their votes for her. Alison (whose vote was stolen by Nick in the prior tribal council and did not vote) explains that it was a contingency plan. In her confessional, Angelina says she’ll be quick to write down their names without any hesitation now. She says she can be vicious if she needs to be. The next morning, Davie and Nick are searching for another advantage while everyone else is asleep. Nick finds an idol clue, which instructs him that he’ll have to sneak out of camp at night and go visit another island to find it.

It’s time for the reward challenge. They will be divided into two teams of five. They must race out to a rope bridge, cross it one at a time, and then reach a platform where they must land three rungs on a ladder target. The first team to finish will win a picnic reward. On the Purple Team are Davie, Carl, Angelina, Kara, and Nick and on the Orange Team are Mike, Gabby, Christian, Alison, and Alec. The challenge begins, and Alec gets an early lead for the Orange Team. However, Alison struggles on the rope bridge, allowing the Purple Team to catch up. The Purple Team eventually takes the lead as both Gabby and Mike take a long time to cross the rope bridge. Christian is the last one to cross the bridge for the Orange Team as the Purple Team is throwing the ladder rungs. Nick struggles tossing the rungs, allowing the Orange Team to catch up as Alec lands the first ladder rung for the Orange Team. Davie swaps out with Nick, but Alec lands the three rungs. Mike, Gabby, Christian, Alison, and Alec win reward!

After the challenge, the people from the Orange Team enjoy their reward. In his confessional, Alec calls himself the star of the challenge. However, he wants to gain Christian and Gabby’s trust. Alec says he’s done with the David vs. Goliath theme, but Gabby is amused in her confessional. She’s gloating about how the Davids now have the power. As they are enjoying their reward, they see that there are letters from home in the picnic basket. They all grab their letters and read them privately, most of them in tears.

Meanwhile, the losers of the reward challenge are lamenting the lack of food. Carl is especially frustrated, and he’s crying at camp too. Later, Carl tells the group that he wants to vote out Alec. He says he’s too big of a threat in challenges. They all say they are on board, but Kara says in her confessional that she’s bothered how Carl asked them about the vote so openly. She says Carl is getting too confident. When the winners of the reward challenge return, Kara lets Alec know that Carl is targeting him. Alec says he’ll win the immunity challenge, but he’s feeling sick from eating too much. He vomits on the beach, and Alison is also feeling ill after eating too much. Later that night, Nick sneaks off to find the hidden immunity idol as Davie is keeping watch. However, he’s nervous since Alison is still awake as she wanders off to vomit. Nonetheless, Nick was able to find the idol and return to camp without anyone else noticing.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. It’s an another endurance challenge as they must stand on a narrow perch while holding onto handles behind their heads. The last one standing will win immunity. However, Jeff lets them know that they can opt out of the challenge and eat nachos if they feel secure enough. The castaways that choose to eat instead of competing are Carl, Angelina, and Nick. They begin eating as the challenge begins. Mike is the first person eliminated, and he’s followed by Davie. As the people not competing are confident Alec is close to dropping and that Kara looks solid, Kara ends up dropping from her perch. An hour and a half into the challenge, Alison is the next one eliminated. Jeff asks Alec how long does he think the challenge will last, and Alec says until he wins. Two hours have passed, and Gabby is crying as she’s still hanging on. She eventually lets go after two and a half hours have passed. It’s now down between Alec and Christian. Christian starts telling stories to pass the time, and eventually five hours have passed. Alec tells Christian that Christian is safe, but he’s not. Christian says he knows, but he breaks down in tears as he tells Alec that he might not get the chance to win an individual immunity again. And eventually, after five and a half hours, Alec lets go and drops from his perch. Christian wins immunity!

The next day, Alec is regretting letting go and dropping from the challenge. He’s crying in his confessional since he’s aware he’s the target, but he refuses to give up. Meanwhile, Gabby is getting frustrated by Carl’s bossiness. He’s telling everyone to vote out Alec tonight, including Kara. Gabby tells Carl it was a dumb decision to tell Kara the plan since Kara is aligned with Alec, and Carl says it’s already been discussed. An argument breaks out between Gabby and Carl, and Gabby starts crying again. Gabby wanders off to the beach, and she vents to Christian her frustrations with Carl. She’s mad how he’s allowed to talk to people outside of the alliance, but she’s apparently not allowed to talk to the other side. Christian agrees that Carl is problematic. Later, Alec, Alison, and Mike say they need to get Carl voted out tonight, and they are hoping they can get Christian and Gabby’s votes. Alec discusses the plan with Christian, and Christian is seemingly on board with voting out Carl. Christian is aware that both he and Alec are being seen as threats, and Christian wants to keep threats around. He’s still torn though. He’s aware he’ll either be the person voting with Alec tonight or the person sending him home.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. Jeff first asks about the immunity challenge, and Christian is proud of himself for winning. Jeff asks Alec his thoughts and what happened to cause him to drop. Alec says that after five hours passed, he started feeling dizzy. Jeff asks about people eating nachos instead of competing, and Nick says he doesn’t regret it since the challenge went on for almost six hours. Carl says he’s eaten nothing but rice, so he was struggling. “Cry me a river,” Dan says to John, as they are watching from the jury section. “It’s the game.” Kara says that Carl must be really confident to sit out of the immunity challenge. Angelina also gets grief for sitting out, and Angelina calls out Alec, Kara, and Alison’s calculated risk at the last tribal council for voting for her. Alec says that he’s aware he’s a target, but he says that’s why people should keep him. Jeff points out the difficulties of the game of Survivor as the reason for voting someone out could be the reason someone else wants to keep that person. Carl says that if he leaves tonight after sitting out of the challenge, then that’s something he’ll have to live with. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.

The tribe returns to camp, and the Davids are celebrating having the numbers advantage now. Alison, however, is breaking down in tears. She said she wanted to fight harder for Alec, but now she can only hope Christian and Gabby will still have her back.

It’s time for the reward challenge. They will be in two teams of four. They must dive into the water and retrieve buoys. They must then land the buoys into nets. The first team to finish will win a meal on a boat. They pick teams, and Kara is randomly chosen as a team captain for the Orange Team. She chose Carl, Davie, and Mike. Angelina is the captain for the Purple Team, and she picked Nick, Gabby, and Alison. No one picked Christian, so he’ll be sitting out with no chance at winning reward. The challenge begins, and the Orange Team takes a lead as they get all their buoys first. However, they all start tossing buoys at the same time, and it’s fairly even between both teams. The Orange Team is the first team to land five buoys into the baskets. Kara, Carl, Davie, and Mike win reward!

The winning team enjoy their reward, and a drunken Carl tells Kara that they will be voting out Alison next. Kara is bothered by Carl being so confident in telling her to vote out another Goliath. Davie is also drunk, and he’s proud of himself for how well he did in the challenge. Carl continues spilling info about how it’s just a matter of time for Alison to go. Kara says in her confessional that drunk Carl is also drunk with power. Meanwhile, back at camp, Gabby tells Christian that they need to make a move and vote out Carl. Gabby later approaches Alison, and she says they need to blindside Carl.

Later in the evening, Carl, Davie, Nick, and Angelina discuss the upcoming vote. Carl tells them all that they all must vote for Alison, and there is no need for anyone to do any scrambling tomorrow. However, he doesn’t want Gabby to know. He even tells Christian that they will lie and tell Gabby that the plan is to vote for Angelina. Christian considers Gabby his closest ally, and he is not on board with lying to Gabby. He now wants Carl out too, and he later talks to Mike about the upcoming vote. They say they need five votes to vote out Carl, whom various tribe members have dubbed “the godfather” as he is very bossy and drunk with power.

The next morning, Christian reveals to Gabby about the plan Carl came up with to lie to Gabby about the true plan. Gabby says she’s now excited about the upcoming tribal council. She believes Angelina has replaced her in the alliance with the other Davids. Meanwhile, the tribe has very little rice remaining, and Angelina says she’ll negotiate for more rice with Jeff. She mentions in her confessional how she’s taken negotiation classes and is confident in her skills.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. They must go through a series of obstacles to collect three bundles of puzzle pieces. They must then use the pieces to solve a word puzzle. The first to finish will win immunity. Before the challenge begins, Angelina wants to know if they can make an offer to Jeff to be granted more rice. She offers Jeff all their fishing gear and most of their cookware. Jeff denies Angelina’s offer, and he says he’ll give them more rice if someone sits out of the immunity challenge. Angelina volunteers. In her confessional, Angelina says she wanted it to be her since it’s something she can add to her resume if she were to make it to the Final Tribal Council. Afterwards, the challenge begins. The challenge is fairly even as they all eventually work on the puzzle at the same time. Carl believes he has solved the puzzle, but his word “Perceptions” is not the correct answer. Soon, Alison and Davie both realize the correct word is “Perceptive,” but Davie spells it first. Davie wins immunity!

After tribal council, Carl is confident that they will be voting out Alison tonight. However, there is a plan to blindside Carl tonight. Alison is still nervous as her best hope if for a 5 – 4 vote in her favor. Alison talks to Mike to make sure he’s still on board voting to keep her, and he reassures her that he is on her side. However, Mike admits in his confessional that he is torn what to do. Later, Christian approaches Mike to make sure they are on the same page and will vote out Carl tonight. In his confessional, Christian is aware that Mike works in Hollywood for a living, so he could be acting. However, he and Gabby still plan to vote for Carl tonight.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff points out how everyone voted for Alec last time, so he asks if it will be another unanimous decision tonight. Kara and Alison say that the vote was to prove to the Davids that they wanted to work with them. Christian mentions all the scrambling that goes on at camp, and Angelina adds that they have all given each other permission to play the game and to not take it too personally. She says tribal council is like a coliseum and they are all gladiators. Jeff asks Alison about the vibe at camp, and she says she’s nervous since there was some tension. Carl says he was okay with the vibe, and he said people could’ve approached him if they needed to talk. Jeff points out how three Goliaths have been voted out, and he asks Mike if he’s nervous. He says the lines have been blurred and new relationships have formed. Angelina says she wouldn’t have made the deal with Jeff if she didn’t feel confident with her group of people. Jeff comments how there could be a clear plan for tonight, but they all have nine different plans to get to Day 39. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.
