Here’s your FIRST look at NBC’s LIVE Sound of Music special, featuring American Idol alum, Carrie Underwood, as Maria. This special feature includes rehearsal footage and SINGING! Of course, I’ve seen the movie, but I have never seen the play. I’m looking forward to this.

The live holiday spectacular is based on the original 1959 Broadway production of “The Sound of Music,” starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel.
The music and lyrics for “The Sound of Music” were written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, with a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.
The iconic story, reads an NBC press release, centers on a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a widowed naval officer. But I’m sure you already knew that!
The three-hour telecast of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical classic, “The Sound of Music Live!” will be broadcast at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Thursday, Dec. 5.
