Sorry, Tom Bergeron NOT Returning to DWTS, But He is Returning to Hosting

DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Halloween" - All treats and no tricks as eight celebrity and pro-dancer couples return to the ballroom to celebrate Halloween and compete on the seventh week of the 2019 season of "Dancing with the Stars," live, MONDAY, OCT. 28 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. Dancing with the Stars fans went berserk after former host, Tom Bergeron, teased a return of sorts. The former host posted an iconic clip from the classic movie, Godfather III. In it, Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino cries, “Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in.” Fans immediately started to speculate that Tom would be returning to Dancing with the Stars, a show he helmed for 14 years.

Could Tom Bergeron Ever Return to DWTS?

But how realistic would a return to DWTS be for the former host? Would ABC invite Tom back to Dancing with the Stars after famously firing him and his co-host Erin Andrews without any warning, totally blindsiding them both? Producers hired the seemingly younger and hipper (but also less professional and capable) Tyra Banks to take his place. And they seem very happy with that decision. ABC has already announced that the entire cast is returning for season 30 in the fall.

Also, Tom hinted that he and DWTS producer Andrew Llinares, who took Rob Wade’s place after he left for FOX, did NOT get along. I mean, imagine how LIVED Llinares must have been when Tom called out the show for casting former Trump Press Secretary, Sean Spicer on season 28.  Months later, Llinares dumped him for Tyra.

Tom won’t return to DWTS but he IS returning to hosting

That’s why Tom surprised nobody when he eventually burst DWTS fans hopes and dreams with a tweet confessing that he won’t be returning to any shows that he  previously hosted. However, he teased, he does have a hosting gig in his future. And that the new project is  reminiscent of a show he previously hosted…

Shows that Tom previously hosted include: Hollywood Squares (1998-2004), America’s Funniest Home Videos (2001-2015), and Dancing with the Stars (2005-20019)

The veteran host might be hosting a syndicated game show

Obviously, his “reeling me back in” bit means that the 65 year old won’t be trundling off to retirement in New Hampshire anytime soon! Tom promised more details next week, but then Deadline suggested a possibility. “Sources tell Deadline that Bergeron has been negotiating to host a syndicated gameshow so that could potentially be one avenue.” Tom responded, “Getting warmer…”

The long-running game show Jeopardy is looking for a host after the death of longtime host Alex Trebek. But Tom pointedly tweeted two days after his initial tease that hopes that LeVar Burton gets the gig. So it’s probably not Jeopardy. Whoever gets that coveted gig probably won’t be past retirement age.

In any case, more will be revealed in the coming week. I’m betting it’s that syndicated game show Deadline revealed.
