Monday’s (May 11) Songland features pop singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, on the hunt for her next great song. In this new preview clip, Milton, Mass. native Jenna Lotti pitches her original song “Sad Girls” for Julia and producer/panelists Ryan Tedder, Shane McAnally and Ester Dean.

The panel gushes over Jenna’s lyrics. In particular, Julia loves the line “Maybe it’s in my genetics/but tonight I’ll forget it.” But after suggesting a word or two may be missing, the panel tinkers with the line, making it even sharper. Shane loves the melody at the top of the chorus so much, that he doesn’t think she should “give it away.” He suggests that Jenna “tell a little bit more of the story” first. “I really think you have something extraordinary,” Shane declares.
Will Julia pick Jenna’s song to record? Tune into Songland on NBC, Monday May 10 at 10 pm ET/PT after The Voice.
