Scott MacIntyre – Heartstrings

Oh Em Gee. 80’s style sSynthesizers and popish guitar riffs. I was not expecting that from Scott at all.

Scott’s new album, completely self-written and also titled Heartstrings, will drop on March 11.

Scott tells People, ““I’ve poured my heart and soul into all 12 original songs, bringing something I hope people will find very rare in pop music today…What you won’t hear on my CD is an over-produced overly-sanitized sound. What you will hear are honest, believable songs delivered with solid conviction. I’ve stayed true to myself in every song.”

Scott MacIntyre will sing “Heartstings” on next week’s American Idol results show. Then, he’ll be joined by Matt Giraud to sing Billy Joel’s “Tell Her About It”

  1. Wow. I couldn’t listen to more than 3 eight counts of this song. That was painful.

  2. I got through the first line and had to stop. My face was all scrunched up in a huge frown and it hurt! Reminds me of Karen Carpenter’s brother – and the way he over produced all the songs and simply ruined the purity and simplicity of Karen’s voice. All I can say is “Ewwwwww!” (picture someone smelling something rotten).

  3. Reminds me of one of those made for movie songs from the 80’s. Just needs a gym filled with students breaking out into spontaneous dance routines. :/

  4. And once again via that press release (and the crappy song) Scott proves he thinks WAY too highly of his talent. He wrote and produced it all by himself? If “Heartstrings” is indicative of the result he should ask for help next time.

  5. Nice to Scott’s talents on full display in that song. And I have to agree that that sound is “something rare” in today’s music. I’ve always thought of this guy as a mediocre hack so it’s refreshing to see him being “true to himself”.

  6. Does anyone think that Scott realizes he is about to become an AI Top 10 statistic?

  7. Scott taks himself SO seriously.

And, the song, bad 80’s flashback.

  8. It’s ordinary and not contemporary and not anywhere near an indie style.
I think I prefer his song ‘in the bosom of Abraham’ ;)

  9. Reminds me of one of those made for movie songs from the 80’s. Just needs a gym filled with students breaking out into spontaneous dance routines. :/

    LOL and Yup!

And once again via that press release (and the crappy song) Scott proves he thinks WAY too highly of his talent.

That’s how it came across to me too. Not to mention, he seems to diss everyone else in pop. Ugh, Scott.

  10. Talk about a flashback to the 80’s! As soon as I heard this I thought of the dead-on 80’s parody“Pop Goes My Heart”from that Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore movie, “Music and Lyrics”. I could definately see Scott rocking the synthesizer in a puffy shirt and shades.

  11. That wasn’t bad. Garage band style works for him. Don’t know how this will go down live, though.

  12. The unexpected from Scott. There has to be something positive in that.

  13. Wow. I can’t believe they are gonna let him perform this on idol. It’s seriously bad…

Hehe, true, but even that song was better!

  14. Wow, it was as bad as ya’all said it was.

I feel sorry for Scott; clearly someone needs to level with him re his chances for success (maybe his brother?). He just isn’t very good, is he? At least this song isn’t … Maybe with better material?

  15. O.K. — so they invite Scott back to have him sing this?!?! There are so many other idols they could invite back that have their own music that sounds like it’s from this century. Micheal Johns (how about having him back on his own to sing his own music), Carly (without Michael), Bucky, Josh Gracin (yeah, I know this will never happen), Anoop.

And yet, ai ptb choose this…hangs head and walks away from computer…

  16. I didn’t think it was that bad.

It sounds like a lot of the songs I hear on the radio today. In fact if it gets a good push behind it I think it’ll do quite well.

  17. Didn’t like him then, don’t like him now. So far for both results shows, seeing the kids do their little group song, I keep thinking how nice it is to not have Scott being guided through it.

  18. I don’t think it’s that bad However,it’s not something I would listen to over and over. I always thought he was a decent piano player.

  19. Maybe they will ‘run out time ‘ after he does the duet with Matt?

  20. It sounds like a lot of the songs I hear on the radio today. In fact if it gets a good push behind it I think it’ll do quite well.

He isn’t signed is he? Even to an indie label? I get the impression that this is self-published work. That being the case, since even indie labels have a helluva time mustering the money and clout to push songs to radio (and even majors have trouble at times!), the radio play ain’t going to happen, I don’t think. …. At least, I can’t imagine how he’d go about getting radio play, when I see how much trouble even the indie people have….

Scott does have a certain apparently magical power to pull things off, though. I never thought we’d see him back on Idol to promote himself, especially not this soon and at such a timely juncture for promoting his new work, when you consider how many great people — and *signed* people! — that they haven’t had back at all! So now I’m thinking he’s somehow going to be the first person in, like, 50 years or so to get major radio play on major stations without even being signed to any record label whatsoever. Cripes. I can almost believe that this will happen.

  21. OMG I thought I was listening to Cause and Effect at first which I FLOVE!!!!!!!!! I hate to say it but I kind of like it! Yes I do! I want to hear more of this album. lol I like this side of you Scotty Pink Pants!

  22. Didn’t they promise to have him on this season to sing because of how upset he was that they didn’t show any of him and Matt’s song on the finale last season? I somehow remember him saying that…not that a promise from TBTB would mean anything, but I’m wondering if it was something to do with that? Because I can’t imagine they would have them on to sing this if they didn’t have to!! Eeck that was bad, even my 4yo wondered what in the heck I was listening to.

  23. *Digs through old boxes for legwarmers and headband…*

Hmm. I don’t like that. I mean, definitely not what I expected but… eh.

  24. Didn’t they promise to have him on this season to sing because of how upset he was that they didn’t show any of him and Matt’s song on the finale last season?

Like I said — magical powers. If they had everybody back on who had been hurt by being dissed in some way… well, wow, just wow.

  25. What you won’t hear on my CD is an over-produced overly-sanitized sound. What you will hear are honest, believable songs delivered with solid conviction.

Did Scott write that with a straight face?

I listened all the way through and it was just bad. It would work well on a remake of ‘Spinal Tap’ though.

  26. I listened all the way through and it was just bad. It would work well on a remake of ‘Spinal Tap’ though.

WOW – you deserve a medal or some sort of prize for making it through the entire song. :-)

  27. I was really surprised by what I heard and not exactly in a good way. I was expecting something way different from Scott. It definitely had a heavy 80’s vibe. I love 80’s music mind you, but not this.

  28. Yeah, um…just no.

The synthesizers really didn’t work. Maybe without that it would have been better, because the guitar parts were closer to the power-pop stuff you can hear on the radio these days. But then again, the lyrics weren’t very good either.

I understand TPTB probably owe him for cutting out his duet with Matt from the finale, but I don’t think him seeing this on Idol is doing to do Scott any favors.

  29. Well at least he’s got an album out and is doing what he wants I guess. But…Scott’s singing two songs, and Matt’s singing only the duet? Scott came in 8th, Matt came in 5th! Why isn’t Matt singing an original song as well. Matt needs a pushier agent or something.

  30. Dentists and podiatrists will be buying it by the bushel for their offices.

  31. Like I said — magical powers. If they had everybody back on who had been hurt by being dissed in some way… well, wow, just wow.

Good point! I guess I’m just wondering why they would have him on. Makes no sense to me.

  32. Are you serious? AI has chosen this pile of dreck over Matt’s music. Wow this is just terrible! I couldn’t even listen to 30 seconds of it.

  33. Wow, I must be the only person in the Idoldom that likes it. It’s nothing special but it’s not awful. I’m happy for him. :)

They told Matt that if he gouged out both of his eyes then he could sing an original too.

  35. Such an earworm! ;)

    You’re pulling my heartstrings
    Emotions impossible to find
    The harder I break free
the harder it is to say goodbye
    You’re pulling my heartstrings (yeah!)
    You’re pulling my heartstrings (yeah!)

(For those that didn’t listen to the end, those “yeahs” above are only in the final version of the chorus, so you missed out!)

  36. I’m disappointed. I was really expecting Scotty Hardcore to come out with some kickass death metal. Oh well.

  37. I listened to a bit of it but had to turn it off.
At least there’s Matt to look forward to.

  38. I’m sure if Adam were singing this, people would be tripping over themselves to gush about it. That said, it’s still pretty dismal.

  39. This reminds me of that song Hugh Grant did for the movie Music and Lyrics with Drew Barrymore where he played a wash-up 80s singer complete with a parody music video….Pop goes My Heart….it’s so corny,it’s actually funny and endearing…..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGLXpIojJkg

But that’s because it’s Hugh Grant…I don’t think Scott can pull that ….

  40. Maybe they have a theme of 80s music next week….so that these two songs fit in….

In this case, we’ll see how much powerful AI really is as a marketing strategy…if an appearrance in the show can significantly boost this corny tune then….yeah, AI viewers can be duped that easily…

  41. ^yeah…Scott over Matt?No freakin’ way that Matt only plays support to Scott…

  42. I’m sure if Adam were singing this, people would be tripping over themselves to gush about it. That said, it’s still pretty dismal.

I most definitely would not be gushing about this, even if Adam were singing it.

  43. I don’t think anything about this appearance is meant to diss or insult Matt. It is Scott’s appearance. Matt was invited to do one specific thing because the producers did something inexcusable to both of them last year. They get to sing the duet that was cut from the finale (while Titania and Bikini Girl were allowed to return). I saw it in concert and it really is a lot of fun.

This appearance by Scott does not mean that Matt will not be allowed to come back and promote his own work. Since he was one of Kara’s favorites, I fully expect that he will. If we get through the entire season and Matt has not been allowed to have his own appearance, then I think it might be time for some grumbling. For now, any appearance on AI is a good thing, for Matt as well as Scott.

  44. The song is OK, but I am sure Scott has some better stuff that he wrote. It will be nice to see Scott and Matt on idol next week’s result show.
