American Idol led the 9 pm hour for FOX last night.  However, for the night, Idol led in the 18-49 demo, while CBS led in the number of viewers:

It was a Thursday of mixed leadership, with CBS the most-watched network and the home of American Idol, Fox, No. 1 among adults 18-49. The live American Idol Results Stood well above anything else last night, with a hefty 19.31 million viewers and a 6.5 rating/19 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. As correctly predicted, John Park, Jermaine Sellers and Haeley Vaughn were sent packing last night, with unexpected Michelle Delamor the fourth to depart. American Idol led into Kitchen Nightmares, which squandered the lead-in support with a fourth-place finish in both total viewers (8.09 million) and adults 18-49 (3.3/ 9) at 9 p.m. Comparably, retention for Kitchen Nightmares out of the second half of American Idol (Viewers: 20.71 million; A18-49: 7.1/20 at 8:30 p.m.) was just 39 percent in total viewers and 46 percent in the demo.

Of course, FOX will maintain that winning the demo is all that matters. Yes, if you’re under 18 or over 50, advertisers couldn’t care less what you watch…

As correctly predicted? By who? Is Mediaweek entered in MJ’s pool? I guess they got 15 points this week.

What an odd thing to say in the middle of a report about ratings.

    ouch….

    ;)

  3. It will be interesting to see if the ratings go down once the X-Factor and AI start sharing contestants…Until then, well it’s hard to fight a 900 pound gorilla.

  4. I just can’t get into it this year.. I’ve only heard bits from here, but what I’ve heard… Siobhan Magnus” is by far my favorite.. she’s really cool..

Adam ruined it for me.. he set the bar SO high… Adam’s the best, and they haven’t found anybody close to his talent..so I just can’t get into it…yet, but I’m looking forward to hearing Siobhan Magnus again, so maybe she’ll get me into it.

Me too. It’s like eh, I’ll watch it if it doesn’t interfere, and I can always come here later and read/see what happened.

    Adam ruined it for me.

I’ll say Adam’s year ruined it for me. Bad way of choosing the top 12 13. Weak girls, overall sense that Adam was so overpowering, that it really wasn’t a competition. (Luckily Kris performed better than expected.) Bad decision to put Kara on the panel.
This year is now in damage control – back to the S4-7 way of doing finalists, putting on Ellen to counteract Kara/no Paula. Trying to manipulate us into thinking it’s a girl’s year.
