American Idol 14 mentor, Scott Borchetta, tells Taste of Country, that finalist, Maddie Walker WILL perform on Thursday night for Movie Night. She still doesn’t know what put her in the hospital for several days last weekend, but it WAS NOT a ruptured appendix, as tweeted by Top 24 contestant, Savion Wright a few days ago.
“That’s inaccurate, premature and trying to get more Twitter followers,” Borchetta tells Taste of Country, laughing.
That’s not to say Walker’s condition wasn’t serious. She showed signs of illness during last week’s rehearsal — at one point, she was completely laid out on her back, getting attention from medical staff. Everyone but Walker thought it was the flu, and she spent several days in the hospital receiving treatment and antibiotics.
“She still doesn’t know what it is,” Borchetta says. “She’s still feeling a little bit weird but a ton better than last week. We really don’t know what it was, but there was something around her appendix that was irritated.”
Hm. It took two days to shoot down the rumor. I wonder why? Maybe because they weren’t really sure she’d be able to perform? In any case, yay that Maddie is well enough to perform this week, and that she’s on the mend.
Whoa, at that swipe Scott took at Savion, though.
Maddie has the advantage of being the only country contestant left on American Idol, Scott says. He believes another finalist, Nick Fradiani, will break out soon. Scott calls him a”“dark horse” that’s “one of the best singers we have.”
“You can feel that he is getting ready for a breakout performance and I think this week and next week will really determine the momentum that Nick has for the season.”
ETA: According to Savion, he was only repeating what Daniel Seavey posted on Instagram. Apparently–because currently there is no mention of Maddie on Daniel’s Instagram today.

If I had reported on Maddie’s illness based on Daniel’s instagram caption, the headline and copy would have been less definitive about Maddie’s diagnosis, because it’s clear he wasn’t sure. Plus, you know, he’s 15.
