Sales News – Week Ending 09/25/15

It’s 7-11 Day on the Idol Sales Chart. David Cook, winner of American Idol Season 7, released his latest album Digital Vein last week and he racked up 10,950 (aka 11K) in combined sales. Good enough for 33rd (3×11) on the SPS chart and 22 (2×11) on the sales chart (where he sold 10,678 – also nicely rounding to 11). I don’t know whether to go buy a Big Gulp and a lotto ticket or just watch School House Rock’s “Good Eleven”. This is Cook’s fourth album, his third since being on Idol and his first indie since then.

There was a lot of new music this week with 9 of the top selling albums being new releases. Drake surprised everybody by dropping a mixed tape last week and his fans responded buying it like hot cakes. It is the second album he has released this year that has topped the chart. This kind of spoiled things for Dream Popper, Lana del Rey who had been predicted to have the number one album prior to that. She’ll have to settle for second on both the combined and sales charts. Mac Miller (hip hop) is third in sales and fourth in SPS, Shinedown (Hard Rock) is fourth in sales and 6th in SPS, Ryan Adams (rock, alt country) is 6th/7th, The Weekend (first for the last three weeks) is 7th/3rd, Andy Mineo (hip hop) is 8th/9th, Keith Richards (proof that Zombies could exist) is 9th/11th and Alabama (country) is 10th/12th.

In other news, Drake’s new album did 29M streams on Apple Music alone. His last album (released earlier this year) did 14M across all streaming services.
