Sales News – Week Ending 09/10/15

This weeks look like it will be a split week on the album charts. Since the introduction of sales and streams into the BB200, the sales chart and BB200 have mostly been in synch. This week looks to be a week where that is not true.

Metal Rockers Five Finger Death Punch celebrate their 10 years in the business by releasing a new album and easily topping the sales chart with 100-105K in sales. But, metal doesn’t move a lot of singles (it’s an album format), so last week’s number one, The Weeknd, should scoop the top of the BB200 for a second week. All week long, The Weeknd has the number two songs on the iTunes chart with “Can’t Feel My Face” and “The Hills”.

The Weeknd also has a shot at the top of the Hot 100. “Can’t Feel My Face” has been there before, but his fellow Ontarian, Justin Bieber snatched the spot last week. Those two will be battling it out again this week. Bieber continues to dominate in the sale department (with sales about 35% higher), but The Weeknd has a more established presence on radio (183M impressions to WDYM with around 50M). So, we shall have to wait until the dust clears.

Other albums debuting this week are from Travis Scott (Rap), Iron Maiden (Metal – lots of Metal on the chart this week), Troye Sivan (Dream Pop – I don’t invent these genres, I swear), Scarface (rapper) and The Wonder Years (rockers – it sounds like I’m giving a Soundtrack rundown today).

Tori Kelly saw a massive surge in sales after her successful VMA performance last week and this week, she’s still feeling some of the effects of that. Her album is at 31st today.
