Sales News – Week Ending – 07/14/16

It’s Britney vs Katy this morning on the singles chart as both dropped long-awaited singles. Brit’s “Made Me” has taken the early lead. Katy’s “Rise” is an Apple download and stream exclusive, but you will hear it everywhere this summer. There is already a video and it will be used by NBC during their Olympic coverage. An ad for the song will play at twenty thousand theatres and it will also be featured on the Today show. I thought Jordan Smith’s song was NBC’s Olympic song? Maybe there are several songs being featured this year.

Going into the last day of counting sales, 87% of reports are already in. Schoolboy Q (Rap/Hip Hop) will have the number one selling debut this week while Drake will regain number one on the combined chart. This is Schoolboy Q’s second album and it will be second on the BB200. Chevelle (Rock) opens at 2nd in sales and 5th combined. Swichfoot (Alt Rock) started out in the Christian rock niche, but have found more mainstream success in later years. Their “Where the Light Shines Through” is 3rd in sales dropping to 8th on the combined.

Beyonce holds 4th again on both sales and combined. She is making a lot of “Lemonade” out of those lemons. Blink-182 was number one on both charts last week and 5th/3rd this week. Adele’s “25” is 6th on both charts, Chris Stapleton is 8th in sales/11th combined, Hamilton is 9/10, Maxwell 10/16 and Rihanna is 25/10.

Carrie Underwood and Melanie Martinez are on the sales chart at 45/56 while Fifth Harmony and Melanie Martinez make the combined chart at 27/34. Carrie also appears with a duet on Keith Urban’s “Ripcord” at 28/40 while Kelly Clarkson and Zayn have tracks featured on Now 58 at 15/39
