X-Factor UK contestant Zayn has the number one album of the week. Nobody else is close and his SPS numbers are only going to get better with “Pillowtalk” being a huge success. “Mine of Mine” is his debut single album. Previously, when he was part of One Direction, he had 4 albums debut as number one. HDD has a run down of their previous debut numbers. “Mind of Mine” will also go number one in the UK and hit number one on iTunes in 83 countries. Great job.
His former band is also on the chart at 44th with the album they released last year. One Direction is seeing a bit of an uptick in sales this week.
Other reality singing show artists in the top 50 so far (only 88% of reports are in) are the latest Voice winner Jordan Smith (he was number 2 last week and number 10 this week so far with his debut non-show album), Idol Contestant Lauren Daigle (who is having a lot of success in the Christian format – we don’t see a lot of Christian albums surge up the charts – usually just around their debuts) and Season 4 Idol winner Carrie Underwood (her latest album is 35th and she appears on the Grammy album at 45th). Sia was on Idol last week as a mentor, performing and having her songs featured – her album saw a big jump.
Back to the top 10: The number 2 album and second highest debut is for K. Michelle. She is an R&B Artist, song-writer and actress with her own reality show (“K. Michelle: My Life”) on VH1. Queen Adele is 3rd (LaPorsha sang her debut single from “25” last night) with Young Thug (naturally, one would think he was a New Age Children’s music artist with that name, but no, he is a Rapper) is debuting 4th. Chris Stapleton continues to sell well months after his star making duets with Justin Timberlake on the CMA’s (where they sang “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Drink You Away” which Trent sang last night on Idol) is 5th. Asking Alexandria (totally telegraphing their genre with that name – who didn’t guess English Metalcore band?) is debuting sixth with Joe Bonamassa (Blues) debuting 7th. twenty one pilots is 8th, Gwen (Voice Judge who was number one last week) is 9th and as previously mentioned, Jordan Smith from the Voice is 10th.
