Sales News – Week Ending 01/08/16

Adele tops the album sales chart again (I feel like I should get a macro for that). It will be news when she does not. She bookends the top 10 this week with “25” easily at number one and “21” at tenth. Justin Bieber continues to be her stalking horse at 2 while Chris Stapleton continues to reap sales from his performance with another Justin last year. That truly put him on the map. Rachel Platten (remember her “Fight Song” – what coronation songs would have been if they were well written) releases a full-length album this week and this will be her highest ranking on the BB200.

X-Factor’s One Direction continues to reside in the top 10 as they hold down the fifth spot ahead of Twenty One Pilots (who are making a big splash with “Stressed Out” which has moved ahead of Adele’s “Hello” on the download chart and sits just behind Bieber’s “Love Yourself”). They are alt-hip/hop and they are just two guys (not twenty-one as their name might suggest – that names comes from an Arthur Miller play called “All My Sons”). Taylor Swift is no stranger to the top 10 and she holds steady at 7th followed by Coldplay and Luke Bryan.

Pentatonix non-Christmas album remains in the top 50 at 22nd. Surprisingly, Jordan Smith is right behind them. I guess not hiding Jordan under a bushel and getting him out to sing a few National Anthems is working. Who knew? Somebody tell Mark Burnett about this. Carrie Underwood’s “StoryTeller” hits the top 25. We also have our recent American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani, on the Now 56 album at 14th.
