American Idol Ratings Dip Slightly from Premiere

American Idol fell 2/10ths of a point from Wednesday’s preliminary rating. The premiere rose a 1/10th, settling at 3.0, when the final ratings were released. We’ll see if the same happens this afternoon. The drop was to be expected, as it was up against the wildly popular The Big Bang Theory in the first half hour.

Over on NBC, Jennifer Lopez’s other show, Shades of Blue, actually built on its Blacklist lead in at 10 pm.

The Wrap compiled all of the American Idol premiere numbers over the course of the show’s 15 seasons. The apex was Season 6, when it earned a massive 15.8 in the 18-49 demo, and over 37 million viewers. However, the point is made that Idol retained more than 90 percent of its demo and total audience from Season 14. Compared to the rest of FOX’s dismal slate, it’s actually not doing that terribly.
