The news broke late Tuesday afternoon that Rosie Perez is leaving The View after a year on the show. Her last day is August 6.
The the five panelists walked out to a fitting song by the morning’s musical guest — “Lovers Never Say Goodbye” by the Flamingos.
After lots of hugs, Rosie got down to business, offering a tearful goodbye to her fellow panelists, the crew and fans of The View.
“You guys all heard it. I’ve decided to move on. I will say that today is very bittersweet for me.
“I am excited for what is to come, but I am so sad to leave ‘The View,’ the staff, the producers, ABC, and especially these two ladies.
“I want to thank you for your friendship, Nicolle, and your intelligence and your wit and your sunshine,” Perez said. “Whoopi, I want to thank you for everything: your guidance, your professionalism, most of all your friendship. It is a dream sitting here with you, and you are truly the captain of the ship.
“And I really, really want to give a special ‘Thank You’ to the Latin community. It’s a real honor to be the first Latina on ‘The View’ — what the hell took y’all so long? — your support on this journey as a community has helped me through this year, and I will never forget what you have done for me.”

If the producers decide to replace Rosie with another Latina, I wonder if they are still considering Glee star, Naya Rivera, who has co-hosted the show several times. She has the ability to get social media conversations going, for better or worse. That’s what The View seems to be looking for these days. Whoopi always delivers on that front. New co-host, Raven-Symone is right behind her.
