Rosie O’Donnell is leaving The View, The New York Post originally reported She will depart the show next week. This, in the wake of a split with her wife, of 2 1/2 years, Michelle Rounds. Sources tell Page Six Rosie and her wife have been apart for months, and that Rosie feels she has to leave the ABC afternoon talker to take care of her 5 kids. Rosie and Michele adopted a girl, Dakota, in 2012.
Rosie’s rep confirmed the news last night in a statement:
“I can confirm that Rosie and her wife Michelle split in November. Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention. This has been a very stressful situation. She is putting her personal health and family first. ABC has been wonderfully understanding and supportive of her personal decision to leave ‘The View.’ Next week will be her last.”
There had been rumors for months that Rosie was clashing with castmates and producers backstage, and that her days were numbered. Maybe her relationship woes give her an out to leave The View looking like it was on her own steam. How many folks quit a job due to a relationship bust up? Rosie’s kids are mostly grown, too. If things were going well at the show for the beleaguered show, it seems to me she’d find a way to take care of her personal issues, while keeping her job. This is the SECOND time Rosie has left The View, departing from her original stint in 2007, after heated clashes with conservative panelist, Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
ABC also confirmed the news Friday night with their own statement:
“Rosie is an immensely talented star who comes in each and every morning brimming with ideas, excitement and passion for the show. When she told us that she wanted to exit The View, we respected and understood her desire to put her well-being and her family first. We’re delighted she’s still part of the ABC family with upcoming guest appearances on The Fosters. And we know she’ll return to The View often with her unique point of view and updates on her work and her family.”
There were rumors that fellow panelist, Rosie Perez, would not return after a hiatus to rehearse for a Broadway show, but she returned last week.
