Rising Star Ratings Hit a New Low

Rising Star ratings are totally NOT rising. The singing competitions hit another series low this week, dipping below 1.0 in the demo.

  1. I think ABC should officially change the name to Falling Star. I think the reasons it didn’t work were the following:
The talent just wasn’t there. There’s only a few that were pretty good, but maybe only one or two at the level we’ve seen on other shows, especially among those that have had some success after the shows.
Judging and hosting were terrible. Critiques by experts weren’t helpful or constructive.
Voting rules were very confusing, especially with the duel rounds.
There aren’t enough weeks of competition for fanbases to build and create media attention for the show.
I would also think that ratings would be lower on SUnday nights than during the week but I dont’ think it would make that much of a difference.
Finally, I do think that that singing competitions are running their course. Ratings are down for all of them and we are saturated with them now. A contestant would have to be outstanding and unique to get the attention of the audience, and I don’t think this will happen with this show, and maybe not with the others either. If it were, the other problems might be overcome.

  2. We were promised a show where we, the audience, were in control of who advanced.

We got a show where who advances is determined largely by Kesha’s need to be loved. The result is that we’re actually getting a show where VFTW is the driving principle, and it leads to a depressing prospect for the later rounds.

The only possible outcomes are (a) Jesse Kinch wins, saddling Capitol with its own retro-stylin’ WGWG whose fanbase won’t buy his original music; or (b) Kesha’s destructive influence results in the first ever finale between two Worster singers. I would actually rather watch paint dry.

  3. If Kesha had her way, the show would be a musical version of Queen for A Day.

  4. Everyone involved with the show should be ready to bail. It’s just embarrassing. The voting system is a total joke and the talent level is way below that of the other singing competition shows.

  5. Really? IDK. His new song is about to come out – I think he’ll wait a bit.
