I told you Randy Jackson would outlast even a Zombie Apocalypse. After the FOX executive session at today’s Television Critics Association tour in Beverly Hills, network chief, Kevin Reilly told Deadline that the ex-judge would return to American Idol in some capacity.
While he won’t be on every show like he was for the past 12 seasons, original Idol judge Jackson “will be back in some capacity,” Reilly said after the session. “He is a friend of show, and certainly guests spots (are real possibility).
FOX confirmed that Keith Urban would be returning to the panel and that producers have been in talks with Jennifer Lopez.
Reports out now say that Black Eyed Pea, Will.i.am, is also in talks and a safe bet to round out a panel that will include Keith and Jennifer.
As I said earlier, I’m OK with Keith returning, but I really didn’t care for Jennifer as a judge. Half the time she offered no real criticism. I don’t find her either sincere or personable. On The Voice UK–where Will.i.am has been a coach for the past two seasons–he behaves like an annoying nutcase. I thought his mentoring on Idol in Season 10 was bizarre . He’ll do everything possible to pull focus, I’m afraid.
