Glee was renewed in May for two more seasons, with the fifth go around with the kids of McKinley beginning in September. But next season is likely to be it, said FOX head, Kevin Reilly at the Television Press Tour in Beverly Hills.
“Never say never, but… there’s two very clear arcs to get to that end and conclude [the series], reports TV Line, “If we discover a new crop of kids and there’s some breakout, who knows. But right now, we’re thinking about two seasons.”
The current crop of kids haven’t broken out yet, so I’m guessing Season 6 will spell the end. The ratings have slumped in recent years. And honestly, the death of its star, Cory Monteith, is a huge setback for the show. I doubt that Glee would have lasted beyond Season 5 if it hadn’t been renewed for two.
I just hope co-creator Ryan Murphy, and company, can wrap the characters’ storylines in a satisfying way. Glee’s audience may have shrunk, but the fans left are intense and very invested in what happens to the kids they’ve grown to love.
