Puppet Simon and Puppet Sofia were played by former America’s Got Talent contestants
Were you wondering about the voices behind the “Sofia” and “Simon” puppets, part of the Puppet Simon and the Cowbells act? Unsurprisingly, the parts were played by America’s Got Talent contestants from last season.
You may remember the Brown Brothers. The two performed a musical comedy act that featured impressions. In their audition, Gabe Brown did a spot on impression of Simon Cowell. It’s no wonder he was asked to return and do it again! The Brown Brothers were eliminated from the competition at the Qualifiers.
Gabe hasn’t mentioned the new turn on his Instagram page, but he did pretty much confess to it in the AGT Instagram performance clip comments.
But as far as puppet “Sofia” is concerned, Merissa Beddows posted all about it on Instagram. “Had an AMAZING time performing the voice of Sofia Vergara with Simon And The Cowbells at @agt!!!!!
GO PUPPETS #agt,” she wrote.
Merissa was the incredible impressionist who also competed last season. She introduced herself as an opera singer inspired by AGT alum Jackie Evancho. But eventually, she won over the judges with impressions of Ariana Grande, Stevie Nicks, Celine Dion, Disney Snow White and, hilariously, the iPhone voice, Siri. She also left the competition at the qualifiers.
The man who built the puppets, Christian Anderson, is the talent behind Pandersonium, a puppet building company. He also crafted Ira & Miriam, puppets that appeared on America’s Got Talent season 10.
Puppet Simon & The Cowbells ended their AGT journey last night (Read our Recap). Check out “Sofia” and “Simon” perform below as their real life counterparts get all petty about it and buzz each other.
“Puppet Simon” sings “You’ll be Back” from the Broadway musical Hamilton after his diva turn drove away his backup singers the Cowbells. Eventually “Simon” learns the Cowbells will not be returning, as they show up to back “Puppet Sofia” as she sings Jlo’s “Let’s Get Loud.” Puppet Simon gives up, and joins Puppet Sofia to finish the song.
