After pausing production amid the writers strike, The Jennifer Hudson Show premiered with a wedding surprise

On the season 2 premiere of her talk show, Jennifer Hudson surprised a couple on their wedding day in Los Angeles with a performance of her 2008 song, “Giving Myself.”

“We are here today at Traci and Pat’s wedding reception. I’m here to surprise them. They have no idea that I am here,” Jennifer told viewers in the video. “I got this huge performance plan for them. The mama don’t even know, the family don’t know. Don’t nobody know nothing!”

The team gets ready for the surprise as the couple shoot photos on the rooftop. They arrive to an empty wedding reception. “Where’s everybody,” the groom asks as the two walk into a purple-lit space to find their guests. Jennifer and her band hide behind a curtain.

After the newlyweds make their way to the front of the room, the white curtain drops, leaving the crowd–and especially the bride and groom–shocked as Jennifer stands behind a mic waiting to perform.

“Congratulations, Tracy and Pat,” Hudson shouts. “And to all of y’all, this is for you!”

The Jennifer Hudson Show was scheduled to premiere on September 18, but pause due to pressure from striking writers

The Jennifer Hudson Show was set to premiere on September 18. But after The Drew Barrymore Show received blowback after announcing they would be returning amid an ongoing writers strike, the show postponed their premiere.

Last week, the writers strike ended. And as The Jennifer Hudson Show had already started filming shows, they were ready to go with their premiere immediately. On Tuesday October 3, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan will appear to promote the new season of The Voice. Cody Rigsby is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, followed by Cedric the Entertainer on October 5 and Shaquille O’Neal on Friday, October 6.

The Kelly Clarkson Show has yet to announce a premiere date. The show is making a big move from shooting the show at Universal Studios in Hollywood to 30 Rock in New York City.
