“People Like Us” – Demo & Songwriting Credits For New Kelly Clarkson Song Revealed! (UPDATE: CONFIRMED)

“People Like Us” is 1 of 3 new songs to be featured on Kelly Clarkson’s upcoming Greatest Hits: Chapter 1 album (Check out the tracklisting here.). The song appears to be IS cowritten by pop/rock singer/songwriter Meghan Kabir (who cowrote “Fighters” with Kris Allen), country and rock writer Blair Daly (who has recently been writing with David Cook and James Durbin and who cowrote Lauren Alaina’s “Georgia Peaches”) and Sixx: A.M.’s James Michael (who will be producing James Durbin’s next album). What do you get with that mishmash of home genres for the songwriters? An uplifting, catchy, and dancy pop/rock anthem a la Kelly’s #1 Hot 100 smash “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger).”

Just so you know we’re not randomly throwing a demo with the right title out at you, publishing company Combustion Music confirmed earlier this week that they have a new Kelly cut, and Blair Daly is a Combustion Music writer.

Here are the lyrics to the song (which are subject to change depending on whether Kelly requested or made any changes herself):

[Spoken] We come into to this world alone
We leave this world alone
And in between
People like us
Have gotta stick together

Hey
Everybody loses it
Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes
Hey
I know what you’re going through
Don’t let it get the best of you
You’ll make it out alive

[Chorus]Oh
People like us
We gotta stick together
Paint the world black
Gonna live forever
Here’s to the damned, to the lost and forgotten
It’s hard to get high when you’re living on the bottom

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

Hey
This is not a funeral
It’s a revolution after all your tears have turned to rage
Just wait
Everything will be OK
Even when you’re feeling like it’s going down in flames

Oh
People like us
We gotta stick together
Paint the world black
Gonna live forever
Here’s to the damned, to the lost and forgotten
It’s hard to get high when you’re living on the bottom

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
You just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher (flames get higher)
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

[monotone] They can’t do nothing to you
They can’t do nothing to me
This is the life that we choose
This is the life that we lead
So throw your fists in the air
Come out, come out if you dare
Tonight we’re gonna dance forever

Everybody loses it
Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes

Oh
People like us
We gotta stick together
Paint the world black
Gonna live forever
Here’s to the damned, to the lost and forgotten
It’s hard to get high when you’re living on the bottom

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
You just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher (flames get higher)
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
You just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher (flames get higher)
O-o-o-oh O-o-o-oh
Sing it for the people like us (for the people like us)

Sure sounds like something Kelly could sing, doesn’t it? Do you think “People Like Us” could be another pop hit for Kelly?
