According to a few entertainment sites, fans have been spreading conspiracy theories that link Wyatt Pike’s sudden departure from American Idol last week, and judge Luke Bryan’s absence from the judges panel last Monday (April 12). The rumors became so rampant, that Luke’s wife Caroline felt the need to weigh in.
Wyatt gave Luke a black eye? Uh. No.
According to Eonline, the crazy rumor goes like this: Wyatt left the show after he got into a “small dustup” with Luke that left the American Idol judge with a black eye. Hence, the reason that Luke missed the Sunday April 12 episode, and producers forced Wyatt to leave the show. CRAY CRAY.
Luke did not publically address the rumor. However, after fans began circulating the wild story that Wyatt punched Luke in the face, causing his absence and forcing the contestant off the show, Caroline debunked the rumor in a Tik Tok video she posted on Sunday.
Luke’s wife steps in to the fray
“Trust me, he has covid,” she replied to fan speculation. “I kinda wish there was a fight. I’m sick of taking care of kids alone and sanitizing. I’m peeing Lysol!!!”
Luke confirmed to People magazine that his wife did indeed nurse him back to health. “Certainly the key to feeling better for having COVID was, you know, I was very fortunate to not have a long, long set of symptoms and stuff. … It was still quite challenging for a couple of days, but thank God for just, certainly, health,” he said. “There were times when Caroline was nursing me back to health, so I was certainly amazed to move through that.”
Luke quickly recovered from COVID
The country singer’s recovery was quick. While Luke announced he tested positive on the morning of the American Idol show he missed (April 12), Paula told reporters that American Idol approached her to fill in for him on Friday, April 9. Just a few days earlier, Luke taped the Top 16 performances episode. Luke was back in his judges seat for the live show on Sunday April 18.
Curious about the timeline, I took a peek at CDC guidelines and according to the site, people who have had COVID symptoms can be around others after 10 days and if they have been fever free for 24 hours. He cut it close! But also, at some point, he sat on the panel for Monday’s taped ahead Comeback special. Is it possible Luke unwittingly taped an Idol show while being infected? False negatives and positives with rapid COVID tests happen all the time.
As far as Wyatt is concerned, he still hasn’t revealed the exact reason why he left the show other than “personal” reasons. However, the singer-songwriter recently dropped an acoustic performance of his 2020 song, “Friday Nights.” He seems to be doing well.
