James Durbin – Maps to the Hollywood Scars Vol. 1 (EP)

Music from the new project between American Idol 10 alum James Durbin and Quiet Riot guitarist Alex Grossi is here. Maps to the Hollywood Scars Vol. 1 is a six song EP from the duo which sheds light on the darker side of the music industry.

“…this is our project,” James told Guitar World magazine. “We own it and we’ve grown it. It’s been a pleasure writing, recording and laughing with each other, and I can’t wait for our collective audiences to hear what we’ve created.”

“Alex and I have been patiently anticipating this release since we first began emailing each other songs in October 2016,” James tells Yahoo Music. “The songs were flowing so organically and got such a great response internally that what started as a side-project, not intended for release, quickly changed to something we no longer wanted to keep a secret.”

Maps to the Hollywood Scars – Volume 2 is set to come out in the spring.

Taylor John Williams – White Summer Dress (Single)

Ahead of releasing a full length album, The Voice season 7 alum and Team Gwen member Taylor John Williams has dropped a music video for his new single, “White Summer Dress.”

“I wrote ‘White Summer Dress’ shortly after moving from my hometown of Portland to Los Angeles in the summer of 2016,” Taylor told Yahoo music. “This was, and has continued to be, an emotionally turbulent time for me. The song deals with the claustrophobic feeling that comes from trying to maintain a calm exterior in moments of internal chaos.

“My vision for the video was for it to be a hopefully self-aware cliché: drinking alone in a bar, daydreaming about a woman, performing to an empty theater, etc. While the song itself deals with some heavy personal subject matter and isn’t meant to be so tongue-in-cheek, I wanted the visual representation to suggest that yes, I get it — there’s nothing groundbreaking about being an insecure, broken-hearted singer-songwriter in a funny hat with a modest drinking hitch. So I tried to have a bit of fun with it. And that I did.”

Totem – Up & Down (Single)

TOTEM or the artist formerly known as American Idol season 8 alum Anoop Desai has released another single, the infectious “Up & Down.”

“I’m 30, I’m educated, and I’m brown,” TOTEM, an Indian-American explained to Time magazine. “I don’t fit the usual archetype the music industry knows how to sell…but I think people are smarter than that these days and with artists like ZAYN and The Weeknd having real success, it shows there’s room for diversity in pop.”

About the genesis of the new song the singer explained, “I don’t know many people who haven’t been taken advantage of romantically at some point. ‘Up & Down is about being in the middle of this tug of war between pleasure and pain.”
