New Music: Barrett Baber, Jax, Meghan Linsey, Rayvon Owen

Ready for some more new music? Last week, The Voice 9 singer Barrett Baber, released a new album with a little help from his fellow contestants. Season 8 runner-up, Meghan Linsey dropped a new single, as did American Idol 14 alums, Jax, Rayvon Owen and Daniel Seavey.

The Voice season 9 2nd runner up, Barrett Baber has just released his latest album A Room Full of Fighters. And he had a room full of The Voice alums lending a hand. From the official press release:

The Voice influence is really strong on the album. Dustin Christiansen is a writer on two of the tracks. He and I are best friends and met while doing The Voice Season 9. Tony Lucca is a writer on one of the big ballads on the project called “Pretty Things.” Adam Wakefield played keys and organ on several of the tracks before he auditioned and placed second on Season 10. I think that goes to show the deep and wide talent pool that The Voice taps in to each year.

Barrett released the album independently with the support of Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola chose Baber to have a lyric featured on bottles nationwide in 2016 as part of their “Share a Coke and a Song” campaign. This Coke partnership will continue in 2017 with a national tour.

Jax – Stars – Single

Another 2nd runner up, this time from American Idol 14, has released a new single. “Stars” is the new tune from Jax who recently ran and finished the New York City marathon. That accomplishment came on the heels of a scary battle with thyroid cancer. The song, she tells Idolator, “was a turning point in the writing process for me. It really covered what I was going through at the time in my personal life and with my health.” Jax collaborated with Hot Chelle Rae founder Nash Overstreet and Sidnie Tipton. “It really represents finding strength in a time of darkness,” she says of the song’s message, “that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.”  Jax’s debut EP Funny is due out on January 27, 2017.

Meghan Linsey was the runner-up to Sawyer Fredericks on Season 8 of The Voice. The singer had been known as a country artist before her stint on the show, but has since expressed interest in shifting to an R&B sound. And, with the upbeat new single, “Exes and Friends,” she manages to cross pop, country and R&B in a very Meghan Trainor-esque manner.
