This week on the Monday Morning Mediabase Milestone Memo we have a debut-a-polooza with 5 songs debuting on various charts. We also have one song with a non-debut milestones.
There are three songs making milestones by debuting this week on the Country chart. American Idol Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood ushers in a new era by debuting in the top 25 with her “Something in the Water” (she’s got two songs on the chart starting with “Somethin”). This demonstrates that she is one of the few bankable female superstars in Country. Another musical superstar is Kelly Clarkson and she is featured on one of Trisha Yearwood’s songs. Their “Prize Fighter” debuts in the top 50. Over to a show not known for its singers is The Amazing Race. Canaan Smith was on a number of years ago and was eliminated by a water slide which his partner refused to go down. His “Love You Like That” debuts in the top 50.
Interestingly, we have two songs debuting at 25th this week. Our second song is from X-Factor UK boy-banders One Direction. “Steal My Girl” is their lead-of single for their fourth album and it started with a bang on Pop. Radio has run hot and cold for these lads in the US, but their touring stats certainly make up for it. Also from the UK’s version of the X-Factor is Cher Lloyd and she is featured on Demi Lovato’s “Really Don’t Care”. It debuts on the AC chart in the top 50.
Our final milestone this week is not a debut. “Unpack Your Heart” is Phillip Phillips’s second single from his second album and it moves into the top 20 on AAA.
