Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Jan 27-Feb 2

Just like last week, there are three milestons on the Monday Morning Mediabase report.

First up is One Direction hitting the top 5 on Pop. I believe “Story of My Life” is their first song to hit top 5 on Pop since their debut single “What Makes You Beautiful”. That song went to top 3 on the BB Top 40 chart. BB and Mediabase are not exactly the same. They saw a large uptick in spins this week, but part of that is due to a re-assignment of some stations over the weekend (some of them being re-assigned from Triple A where 1D fell off that chart). Pop saw some fun spincreases this week.

Next up is Season 10 winner, Scotty McCreery. His “See You Tonight” goes top 15 on Country and at 13 is a career high for the teen. I have to admit that when this song was toodling around in the top 30/40 for eons and even after his album dropped, I thought it was doomed. But a lot of hard work by Scotty and his team (and positive feedback on call-out data) has made this song a success. Hopefully, it will grease the skids for his next single. It will be interesting to see if his team has the patience to wait for this song’s turn in the top 10. It’s difficult for a song this old to achieve that because early adapters may have dropped off by now.

Finally, we have Daughtry making a three-pronged attack on the charts. This week on AC, “Waiting for Superman” goes top 20. This song is charting on all the mainstream charts.
