Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Dec 29-Jan 4

As radio shakes off the last vestiges of Christmas, we see some pretty impressive spincreases on the Christmas song playing charts – most notably AC, CAC and Country. This yields fewer Milestones then one might think because everybody is seeing those spincreases across the board. There are 5 milestones this Monday to start our New Year.

Two songs appear at 31st on the charts – top 40 and almost top 30. Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water” appears on the CAC chart from way back at 92nd. It’s done well on some of the Christian charts on Billboard due to sells, but now radio is jumping on board. Of course, the song is doing very well on Country and is int he top 5. Ella Henderson’s debut single “Ghost” has also been doing well in it’s home formats of HAC/Pop, but this week it was brought onto the third mainstream format AC. It went from 62nd to 31st.

One Direction manages two milestones on it’s own with “Night Changes”. Their second single from their fourth album (“4”) moves into the top 40 on HAC and top 20 on Pop. Also on Pop is fellow X-factor alums (from the US franchise) Fifth Harmony. This group was also formed from cut solo singers and it now has a top 20 hit with “Sledgehammer”. Bea Miller, also from X-Factor US, returns to the top 50 on HAC.

HDD should be back to estimating sales for the top 50 this week. It should be grim.
