Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Dec 21-27

With the switching of formats to Christmas tunes earlier in the week and back to non-Christmas music starting on Saturday with a sprinkling of the year/half-decade countdowns, the charts are very stagnant this week. We see lots of songs lose their bullets and only one milestone.

One Direction achieves that one milestone with “Perfect” sliding backward into the top 10 on Pop without a bullet. This is the second single from their fifth album (“Made in the A.M.”) and is their second single to go top 10 on Pop.

Returning to previous highs are Adam Lambert’s “Another Lonely Night” which re-enters the Pop chart in the top 50 and Canaan Smith’s “Hole in a Bottle” which has been ping-ponging between top 40 and top 50 for weeks (it is top 40 this week).

Adele sold 1.15M copies of “25” to top the BB200 (her third million dollar selling week). She now stands at 7.13M sold. Her equivalent albums sold take her to 1.19M. Justin Bieber holds steady at 2nd on the BB200 with 229K (+38%, pure album sales were 153K, +53%). Chris Brown’s ranting at his fans to go out and buy his album was successful as he saw a late week surge to get to 184K and open in third (162K in pure album sales).

Pentatonix is in 4th with 140K (+1%). One Direction is 6th (92K, +38%) and Adele closes out the top 10 with 21 (71K, +46%).
